Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have that same crank. I will let you know how it goes. Is yours the darker colored silver one?

i will take a pic in a bit.

i would not describe it as dark... it has a red badge with the trademark and has some acid etched letters that seemed to be the first areas to deteriorate.

My wife has those and if it happens to her we'll hunt this thread down to let you know how the warrantee issue worked out. But you really ought to beat us to it.

I think there was a thread about this very thing some months back. It does appear to be a common problem. Which LeMond did you buy? My Tourmalet (2004) came with Shimano 105 cranks. I hope you find the solution to your problem.

Cheers,

Brian.

My 2100 came with Race Lite cranks. I bought it in July. I have noticed that the finish has started to discolor. I suspect that they may be starting to peel. We'll see.

I posted about this issue last October. The plating flakes off in small sharp shards(?). I don't find much comfort in using it.

Don't expect much help from Bontrager.

I have a 04 with Ultegra cranks,

Thats odd, I would talk to Lemond or whoever falls under the warranty of the cranks, maybe even the LBS

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

My friend has a Cannondale frameset which he built up himself. The Bontrager crankset was a special order from a local bike shop.

When the issue first became apparent, he first went back to the local bike shop. The bike shop gave him the contact information for customer service at Bontrager. Leaving a voicemail with customer service was fruitless. The contact never returned his calls, but he did respond via email after repeat messages.

My friend forwarded the email discussion thread to me. I've read it. It seems the rep avoided dealing with it. Finally telling him a replacement crankset was on its way to the local bike shop where he made his original purchase. No one at the bike shop knew of any arrangements for RMA and no crankset ever arrived.

My friend's frustration is with the local bike shop and with Bontrager. Neither seems to want to provide any assistance.
