Anyone have both Campag and Shimano bikes?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Anyone have both Campag and Shimano bikes?

I currently have a Trek 5500 with Dura Ace which I like a lot. However, I continue to have this itch for a more exotic bike with Campag components. I have found a good deal on a De Rosa frame with Chorus components and am very tempted. Does anyone else own different bikes and alternate between Shimano and Campag? Any problems adapting from one to the other? Or is it better to stick to one groupset and have it on all bikes? (This isn't meant to be yet another Shimano vs Campy thread, since I assume anyone who has both on different bikes is happy with either.)

I use both. The only confusing part is that the paddles behind the brake levers move the chain to a smaller cog with the Shimano system and to a larger cog with Campagnolo. It isn't too much of a struggle. I mess up a few shifts from time to time but I don't race so a missed shift won't ruin my day.

I have both (Ultegra and Centaur) and like each for different reasons. Transitioning between bikes isn't too bad.

Between modern Ultegra 9-speed on my 1987 Centurion Dave Scott Ironman, and Chorus/C-Record on my 80's Titan Exclusiv, I'll take Suntour Superbe Pro on my 1986 Maruishi Professional . Seriously...no, seriously.

For the previous year and a half I've been bouncing back and forth between the Shimano Centurion and the Campy Titan without any preference for one or the other. Both are sweet rides. But I've just finished building up the Maruishi and it's without a doubt my favorite ride ever. Maybe it has to do with being reminded of that first hardcore road trip, you know, the one when early in the morning you hop on the bike(in my case it was an '84 Suntour equipped Fuji) and before you know it the sun is going down and it's time for some serious grubbage!...Best day ever!

So Shimano Campy? It's Suntour for me . Pardon me for waxing nostalgic.

I have both and while there is no issue switching between the two I wish my Shimano bike was Campagnolo. And at some point it will be.

I had both but I've focused on either Chorus Ergo or DuraAce bar ends. To tell you the truth, in a group I prefer the Ergo since I don't have to take my hands off of the hoods. Riding in small groups or alone I much prefer the bar ends because they're nicer shifting. They don't "CLUNK" between gears and you can ease it from the big ring to the small rings without having to worry about dropping the chain.

When I had Ergo and STI I would make mistakes occasionally but you would aclimate pretty fast and by the end of the ride you'd be shifting correctly without thinking about it.

I have both, and like others have said, I might mis-shift on the first shift, but that's about it. I do miss the Campy shifting when I'm on the Shimano though - it just feels more natural for my hands..

You do realize that Suntour Superbe Pro was pretty much an EXACT copy of Campy right?

I use Campy on all my road bikes and Shimano on the MTB. I've ridden and owned Campy, Shimano and Sun Tour. All My road bikes except one I'm building now used barcons. There isn't much of a difference in performance though with barcon shifters. They all work about the same.

I have both. I would only use Campy if they had slightly larger brake hoods. But once setup (Centuar) I never need to fiddle or worry about it.
