Bell Ghisallo vs. Furio - ventilation?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bell Ghisallo vs. Furio - ventilation?

I'm looking for a new helmet, since the one I have is not the "coolest" (in more ways than one). I've narrowed my choice down to the two Bell helmets in the title, since they seem to fit the best (compared to comparably-priced Giros).

There's a considerable difference in MSRP between the Ghisallo and Furio...$40 in fact. I'm indifferent about the style differences, and actually prefer the colors available in the Furio. So I'm inclined to be nice to my wallet and get the more affordable option. But since the biggest reason I want a new helmet is increased ventilation, I want to make sure I'm not cheating myself by getting the cheaper helmet.

The Furio actually has more vents, but they're smaller and not as noticeably chanelled. The Ghisallo definitely looks more "open". The Ghisallo is no doubt better...but is it $40 better?

So has anyone tried both of them? Or does anyone have the Bell Furio and care to share the pros and cons? Specifically, is there anyone that's found the Furio to be inadequate in the ventilation department...or is it breezy as can be?

Can't speak to the Furio but I ride with a Ghisallo and it is a wonderful helmet. Fit for me is perfect and I honestly don't notice it one bit other than it is so well ventilated that when cruising at 20 mph or so the thing is a bit loud and not that conducive to conversation with fellow roadies.

Chalk another one up for the Ghisallo. I love mine!! The fit is so nice compared to many others I've tried. Also, I have no problem with cooling at all since the cooling vents are nice and large. Shop around as I just bought a 2005 version for $55.00!!!!!!

Performance has the Ghisallo on sale right now. I used the Furio before and trust me, here in SoCal the Ghisallo was a superior helmet, cooler, and more comfortable.

I've tried a few helmets and I really can't tell the difference between any of them I went from a Alchera to a Furio after I crashed but not before trying some of the more expensive helmets and deciding it wasn't worth the price.

I went with the X Ray over the Ghisallo. It the MTB version, and is almost identical but there are subtle differences. I thought it sat a little lower, and had a better overall fit. Plus it came in solid silver or titanium.

I too have the Ghisallo and haven't had any complaints here. I like how it is larger on the sides so it keeps your face farther from the pavement if you end up hitting the side of your head.

As for vents, it moves a ton of air. As a few who posted before me said, there is a lot of wind noise beginning at 18 mph. Sometimes I think a car is behind me.

I've used the Ghisallo, the Furio, and, currently, the Sweep R. All have been fine helmets. My only complaint about the Furio has to do with the sweat pads. Since there is a space between pads in the front of the helmet, sweat can run down your face. I think this was a problem with the Ghisallo, too, but it is not a problem at all with the Sweep. Concerning wind noise, Furio is also a louder helmet than the other two; the Sweep is the quietest of the three.

I too have the 05 Ghisallo. My old helmet was/is the 02 Furio. They are both good helmets, but the Ghisallo is definately a cooler helmets as far as airflow. And Prosody is right, the sweat doesn't run down my forehead with the Ghisallo as it sometimes did on a hot day with the Furio. But either helmet is a good choice. P.S. I paid $93 for my Ghisallo earlier this year.

Never tried the Furio but I have a Ghisallo and am very happy with it. Excellent ventilation and the fit dial at the back is very comfortable.

I have an Alchera and a Ghisallo - both are fine and other than the color, it's hard (for me) to tell them apart.

Get the Bell Alchera from Performance for $45! I have one and it's got great ventilation. Certainly the best at that price. Normally $85...

Wow...I've never heard of the Alchera before. And Bell's site doesn't say anythign about it. It looks more open and ventilating like the Ghisallo, but the price is much more right.

Thanks for the heads up. Time to order one!
