Should an Italian guy like me get and Italian bike even if not needed?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Word is I could get this for two grand....would you do it even though I have a one-season 2005 Klein Reve' with Campy Veloce?

Talk about WANTS versus NEEDS and American excess....but still....hmmmm

American Excess...don't leave home without it!

If you feel the strong pull of nationalism then you should go for it. I assume you'll be pickin' up the bike in your Armani sweater, Versace slacks and Ferragamo shoes! Wait...probably not...that'd take $$ away from the bike!

Exactly...can't even afford the bike really.
I DO have this thing for Bianchi....that whole Italian connection. I LOVE Breaking Away! I bought my wife a really nice Bianchi to putter around on last year too....always wanted one.

My LBS.....
I'm a very good customer and he needs to move the bike.
If I don't buy it then someone else I work with probably will....because he's actually in the market for a new road bike unlike me....

Deal is they keep the Campy Chorus crank however and replace with Bianchi.
Still....

Hipcycler, you absolutely must! However, Italian tradition requires that the bike not only come from Italy, but also from your family's town of origin

Stick with the Pinarello.

I have the same problem with Bianchi that I have with Lemond. They make bikes for all sorts of price ranges and, unless you know all the models, it's hard to tell at a glance which is a $750 bike and which is a $5K model. And, which is made in the home country and which is made in Taiwan....

Being OCP, you want everybody to know you are on a high-end bike, not just some people.

Hip,

Sounds like you're slowly succumbing to late season bike lust. RESIST!

That Klein you have is a rockin ride and its hardly broken in.

Ride the Klein!

Rad...

Your point here is an excellent one:

And, which is made in the home country and which is made in Taiwan....

But if only he could get me a Pinny for two large!

I don't need an Italian bike. I've already got a good namebrand road and mountain bike.

But that has not stopped me from collecting Campagnolo components over the years in anticipation of that Italian frameset that will one day arrive.

Hip, there's your answer.

If you could get a L'una for 2K, on the other hand....

Yea but he is already on AL. Now if you want to start a discussion about the Shimano components on there we can have that discussion...that is shameful.

If you don't buy Italian, I'm going to have Ostuni fit you for cement shoes.

On topic, I just wouldn't pay $2000 for an aluminum or aluminum/carbon frameset or bike. Aluminum is nice, but in that financial ballpark, you can pick from some nice carbon fiber framesets and bikes.

White carbon is really a useless fad. It just adds weight with no increase in strength.

although, I have white carbon bottle cages...

Yeah, but it's still sexy.

Paint adds weight and doesn't increase strength, but we use it anyway.

Not Litespeed or Soloist owners.

Italian bikes have some interesting designs, but often design supercedes function. For ~2Gs, you can get a nice Cervelo Soloist with Campy.

That’s a sweet looking ride and for 2 grand I'd add another reparto corse to my stable. 1 thing to remember though is Bianchi means passion not posing.
