Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Hello all,

Well I do not need to reguritate the whole deal I am going on with but some background on the trek maybe is warrented.

About 4 maybe 5 months ago now I was in a practice crit when my foot became dislodged from the pedal and slammed into the ground nearly going completly down. I found out later that day that I had fractured the little bone in front of the big one (what a discription) in my right leg. After being checked out a bone density test was run and it was found that my bone density was very low and I was in the beginning states of ostioprosis (some call it preostioprosis). I was told that the bike was off limits until they could figure out what was going on.

The next week it was discovered that my trek had a hairline crack in the fork and the handlebar (probably from another crit crash). After that my life took a halt, etc, read foo to understand.

Last week I was given clearance to ride again (no racing) and I got back on the bike 1 week ago. My bike came back from the shop and here it is.

Just because I could not be with all my friends in the OC today.

Everyone says my bike is OCP and in someways it is. That said the bike is ridden and ridden hard and that is what makes the component choice worth it. It is a purpose built bike, crits and road races and fast club rides. I take care of the bike but it is no where perfect, just look at the nicks on the crank and deraileurs.

Well the bike is almost officially done, the only thing left is the stem but I don't know if that will happen... it is only OCP and expensive OCP at that.

Mine is a 60 cm and I have weighed it in at 20 pounds. How in the world did you drop so much weight of the bike?

I have the exact same thing. Except I'm 17 years old.

A bone density was done after I got a stress fracture in my back from running, and they told my my bone density was right on that osteoporosis/osteopedia edge. One doctor told me to do absolutely nothing, but another one said I could ride a bike so long as I didn't fall. So I bought my first road bike (how I got into the sport), promised to be careful (screw that- 45 mph decents are fun!) and here I am.

That is awsome that you were able to get back on the bike. They have me taking a whole bunch of calcium suppliments right now- I've tried so many I could practically run a GNC by myself- and I've found that a drink/shake called ENSURE is the absolute best. It tastes great, it gets the right stuff into your body, and it doubles as a VERY effective recovery drink after a good ride. I swear by that stuff as both a recovery drink and a calcium suppliment.

PM me if you have any questions at all. Good luck riding and awsome bike!!

There are a few main points that really weight the bike down, mainly it is the fork (650g vs 360g) and the wheels (about 200g difference). The bike could theoretically be about 17 pounds with light wheels (there are about 1750g or so).

It is all the little things that count although I never really count grams anymore. BTW wieghts are per LBS scale, verified 3 times than averaged.

But then again, I figure I'd rather get nailed doing what I love than sit around and do nothing, but stay perfectly safe. The highlight of my career, thus far, has been breaking my arm by falling down (standing) on shag carpet. You'd think a car or a pothole could do much worse. Oh well, that's the price I pay.

Man riding is addicting!
