OCP Dilemma

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

OCP Dilemma

I'm sure only OCPer's will understand the true dilemma.

It's finally cool enough around here where I needed to get out my cold weather riding gear. I got a new frame last spring so obviously I had to pick up some new warm weather riding garb to match the frame color scheme.

While my old cold weather stuff doesn't "conflict" with my new frame is just doesn't bring out the best in the frame and me. In order to get some miles in today I went ahead and rode by myself and used what I had. Thank goodness it wasn't a big ride where there would have been a lot of other cyclists around.

The big problem is I'm short on cash (3 college tuitions) and I don't think my family will recognize the importance of the problem to help me even though Christmas is just around the corner. Especially since I picked up my really nice cold weather gear last winter to match the frame I had then.

Any suggestions???

If your family doesn't understand, they don't love you.

This is very funny.

As much as I like to ensure my proper matching garb, in the end, my bike always seems to win.

Call me crazy, but before I had any cold weather gear, there used to be the odd day when I would even go out without it and freeze my knees off, just to get in a quick 20.

Do what you feel is best.

I think what patriot is trying to say -

don't wear anything that doesn't match perfectly. Sure, you might be cold, but you'll look good, and that will warm your very soul.

What I meant to say was, sometimes I just have to get out no matter what I am wearing, even if must in my pj's.

(as long as they match )

Dude, check the thrift-shops.

I made a killer haul at the Junior League thrift shop yesterday. Granted, my new gear isn't especially pretty...my big concern is just staying warm and dry, because I'm a commuter, not an OCP, but I got some seriously fine quality stuff for rock-bottom bargain prices. Columbia jacket, $11, ProSpirit fleece $3. If you're willing to cruise for a bit, you can find some great deals secondhand. I got a cashmere sweater I could use for a base layer for $6. How can you go wrong with cashmere for $6?

All the more reason to stop at every Starbuck's along your route for a tall, hot, frothy one...

Think of it this way... Christmas is coming up soon and it is better to give than receive.

So give your bike the type of gift it deserves this year, a fashion coordinated human to power it along the road! How else can your bike look its best?

Do this, your bike will thank you. (so will we)

Don't worry, there's no penalty for not being able to get it done, you're "In" just for appropriate OCP thought processes.

You can't always get what you want / when you want it. But you can make plans for the future. So make plans for end-of-season sales. Helps the winter go by faster.
