With winter coming on, thoughts about riding and my bike seldom leave my mind (yea I'm obsessive).
I have been systematically going through each of the “contact” points to assure my ride next spring will be spot on. Now I’m wondering about how I ride. I’m a tall guy and set my saddle all the way back. It feels to me like I have the most power in my legs when I do this. Now I don’t spin at a high cadence but if I were to guess I would think it’s in the 70-80 range and I have about 2500 miles experience. I just like to ride my bike but do I really know what I'm doing?
So my question is this, will a spinning class make me a better rider? Of course it is great cardiovascular workout. Do you learn a few tricks in these classes that will help you on the road? Has anyone ever critiqued their riding style to get better?

imho .. Spinning CAN make you a better rider, depending on the TEACHER. i started spinning before i got back on a road bike, but it was the TEACHER who inspired me. He was a roadie who used to race, and really pushed you a LOT. Now when i spin, i run the tension up a lot higher than i used to, and i think it helps a lot when i'm on a hill on a bike. i have two friends who can only ride 1-2 times a week, but spin everyday, and they can usually beat me uphill.
Spinning classes that are like aerobics classes on bikes, with a lotta fast music and a cute 20-something teacher might keep you amused, but probably won't help your cycling.
