Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Which ones are better???

I want to get clipless pedals and shoes for Christmas, but I am having trouble picking the ones I want out. I now nothing about them, so I need help! I found some shoes I like, but do ont know what pedals to get. Which ones are better? I am more likely to get #1 b/c they are less expensive, but maybe my parents wouldn't mind spending a little more if the performance is better. Please help me out. If you have any other suggestions on shoes/pedals, please let me know.

Well, I would say go with the Times. But are these your only two options?

Well there are many many options out there.

Go to places like:
performancebike.com
nashbar.com

I honestly would stay away from wellgo, they seem like and I have heard that they are good pedals, but do not last long.

I have the magnesium version of those Welgo pedals. The mag ones(mine) are very light, but the regular alloy ones are kinda heavy.

Aren't Looks the most popular and universal of all the wide bed pedals on the market? If so, why wouldn't you want to take advantage of a sale on one of those models?

Are you saying that these are a good deal? And are good pedals?

Egg beaters are ATB pedals for the most part. You can ride them if you want, but I know personally I would get hot feet with that type of small contact patch pedal. Best stick with Look, SPD-SL or Speedplay type pedals.

OK, my advice to anyone who hasn't worn a paticular model of cycling shoe before is that you realy need to go to a bicycle store and try them on. Every brand fits differently and the sizing may be different to your street shoes. All my street shoes are Birkenstocks and I usualy wear a 35 (Euro) and occasionaly a 36 but for cycling shoes I wear 37's. Some cycling shoes are wider and some narrower, some squeeze your toes and some give you plenty of room. Shimano's shoes seem to work for me but I tried a pair of Pearl Izumi's and they just didn't fit properly in any size.

Regards, Anthony
