Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Long time watcher first time posting.Just picked up both of these in the last month. Still dialing in the fit on both bikes. Both have aero bars due to scar tissue in both palms to give me an option to get the pressure off my hands throughout long rides not for tt or tri's

Nice Evo...I should probably switch my Di2 to an internal battery.

As a 2010 model, it's not exactly new, but this is my Synapse just after a major cleanup and refurbishing and a set of custom-built wheels: H+Son rims, White T11 hubs, Sapim CX-Ray spokes, blue anodized hubs and nipples. I also replaced the rear derailleur so I could go with a 12-32 cassette. And a Brooks saddle just to get people riled up. This is now my go-to distance and multi-day bike.

I'll play...why put aerobars on a bike with relaxed geometry? Wouldn't aerobars on a bike with a more aggressive geometry, like an EVO or a CAAD make more sense?

Finally able to upload this. Just got this caad 12 the other day. Put a bonty paradigm RL saddle, time pedals, Reynolds ouzo pro round carbon bar with lizard skins. Excellent ride

A lot of people have aero bars on Synapse's, Roubaix's, and similar relaxed geometry bikes. They bought those bikes in search of more comfort on longer rides. Aero bars are not just about speed but comfort. My wife has aero bars on her Ruby and without them I doubt she could complete a century. I tried aero bars on an older CAAD many years ago and the results were less than spectacular. With the lower bar height causing too much weight on the front end the handling was uneasy. I do have aero bars on my Fargo (off road touring) and they are wonderful for all day riding. Do they help me go faster? Not really, but it's my favorite position on the bike.

I guess it's not as odd as people putting aero bars on mountain bikes to ride on the MUPs, still it seems the upright position the relaxed geometry offers would be more comfortable than awkwardly laying across the front of your bike.

My new ride:

I've got the evo bottle cages coming, and I'm going to use a smaller saddle bag, but I'm loving it so far!

Hey Doug! Great looking bike. I have a question about your wheels. Are they carbon with carbon brake surface or are they aluminum with anodized brake surface?

Yep, great wheels, but I hear the black brake surface wears away. I have them on my fixed gear so try not to use the brake too often.

I have a pair of Wolber anodized wheels that I ride on my 2 older Cannondales (2.8 Criterium 1992 or '93 I believe and a 3.0 Road Race 1990). I like the look but as you say the anodized surface partially wears away eventually. I was hoping that maybe they had solved that issue with special brake pads or something. From a distance mine still have the look of black (or actually a dark brownish tone) and have held up fairly well over the years. They're just heavy as hell compared to the Kysriums on my Orbea.
