Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Weight Weenies! Look at this message I received about Scott!

"Just wanted to let you know that we received a new 2006 Scott CR1 size 54. We installed only Zipp 202's and the actual weight is 12.6 POUNDS! No other changes were made to the stock bike."

Maybe a typo? 16.2 vs 12.6

Isn't the minimum weight on Pro bike Tour something like 14.6?

12.6 is very possible with select components, wheels, and a few things missing like pedals and bottle cages. Maybe even with.

Top of the line CR1s are listed at 15-15.2 lb (15.2 with DA10/Ksyrium SL). Dropping 2.4-2.6 lbs seems like a stretch for only a wheel change. Zipp 202s are simply not over 2 lbs lighter than Mavics (more like a pound).

sounds a tad optimistic. Weight weenies has a CR1 totally tricked out (i.e. cf chainrings etc.) that weighs 5702 g (approximately 12.6 lbs.)

Isn't the '06 frame even lighter than previous years?

Website has the frame listed at 1.94 lb / 880 grams. You may be right; for some reason I'm thinking last year it was a portly 900 grams.

12.6 lbs. is easy.

My new S-Works E5 weighs 15.3 lbs. with pedals, and that's with the fairly heavy Specialized carbon bar (232 g), stem (141 g), saddle (268 g), seatpost (240 g), and fork (340 g).

If I were to swap out those components with some boutique stuff (Tune, Schmolke, Extralight) and the wheels (Ksyrium SL tubulars with Continental Sprinter tires) with something lighter (Zipp 202's or Lightweight Obermayer's with some Tufo SL tubluars), I could probably get the weight down to about 13 lbs.

Granted, it'll cost about $6000 USD to get it done, but it can be done, and that's what is important.

UCI minimum for road-going bikes is 6.8 kg, or about 14.99 lbs. That includes pedals, bottle cages and computer.

Um, do you even HAVE this bike yet? If I remember correctly, you just bought it off someone from roadbikereview.com. No way that you've recieved it yet.

We have a few hills where I live too.

If I was to put all of the components from Trinity onto a CR-1, I could knock off about a pound. Then I'd have a sub 14# bike, instead the bulky and overweight sub 15# bike I am forced to strain myself on right now.
