Nice ride amidst the ice and snow

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Nice ride amidst the ice and snow

When it get's cold enough, my cycling computer konks out - it's not an old battery issue, same thing happened last year. Upside is that in the winter, I ride without having any data input. Today, we hit that point. I like getting data, but it's also nice just riding on feel instead of trying to hit some arbitrary mph or rpm or HR.

So yeah, the cold bites, but it has some benefits too. And it's way better than the rollers I was riding on yesterday.

I used to ride to school when it was snowing and the road was covered in ice just to try and fish-tail around all the corners. I usually ended up sliding on my arse but it was fun and it didn't hurt What this has to do with your story I have no idea...

I think the signal from the wheel unit gets too weak - it's all driven by chemical batteries, which lose their oomph (I believe that's the technical term) when the temp goes down.

In my case, it was the layer of ice (thanks to the freezing rain and snow) covering the magnet, the sensor, and the computer itself. It was only in the 30's on Friday whereas that computer has worked fine on days in the teens.
