Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

[QUOTE=james_robert]Hey, ive ordered an R1000 from my LBS and was wondering if the price the gave me for it was good,.

Is that for the Cad8, with 10spd Ultegra and Kyserium elites? If so that is a very good price, my LBS retails them for about +/- $2500. I know a guy who just got a deal at $2150. and was a very happy man.
FWIW,I live in Calgary,so we're both talking Canuck Bucks...

yea its the caad8 ultegra, but it has kysrium equipes, not the elites, and yea my LBS retails them for $2500 as well, but they gave me 15% off and then accepted my old bike that i rode for probably close to 7500-10000km as a trade in, in fact i think they may also take off a bit more seeing as how i upgraded my old bikes crankset from a truvativ to FSA energy, and also upgraded the cogs. who knows

Yes, I have an '06 R1000 (CAAD8, Ultegra 10, etc.). It's a sweet bike. It's light and stiff, climbs well, sprints well, and generally goes like a rocket. I also talked the shop into giving me the Ksyrium Elites for the same price, instead of the Equipes. Otherwise, the bike is spec'd really well, so I really have no complaints (well, the stock saddle wasn't so great, so I replaced it with an unfortunately-named but very nice Specialized Toupe saddle).

They generally go for around US $2,000, so $1,800 Canadian is a pretty good deal.

If you can, get a leftover '05 R1000 as I believe they're stocked with the Ksyrium Elites, a Fi:zi:k saddle, and I think there was something else that Cdale downgraded from the '05 to the '06 R1000

hate to be combative, but isn't your real question:

Is $700cd enough for my current bike.

If your trading in a bike you are not getting the R1000 for $1,800, you are getting it for $1,800 + your bike.

If your bike is worth $725 you are not getting such a great deal, if your bike is worth $100, yeah, your getting a great deal.

Crap thats like saying I got my new Suburu for $10,000, oh sure, i had to trade in my 3 year old Prosche, but $10k for a new Suburu is a great Price isn't it?

So tell us about your old bike and we can decide if you are getting a deal or not

Sounds quite good, the Cannondale dealers here wanted $1650 in summer of 2005 for R700s... with a 105 component set and some generic brakes. I believe the R1000s were closer to $2050.

(Prices in Canadian dollars)

The 05 also had the FSA slk mega exo carbon crank.
