Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I need a fast sexy bike for a little over 2k

I just got the best christmas present ever!!!

My parents are selling the truck and giving me $1500 from the sale for a new bike!!!

I have 500 saved, so I can afford something in the 2000-2500 range if I get a deal.
Any suggestions? I looked at all the major brands (I think) and I'm leanig towards a felt f4c.

I want a bike thats fast and sexy, but preferably not something everyone else has.

Pedal Force QS2 w/ Ultegra - $2K; w/ Dura Ace $2.6K.

www.pedalforce.com (go to the online store menu)

A few BF members have the QS2 and love it. Some may point to better deals out there, but I think you'll have to work to find them.

My advice, take your time, shop around and go for extended test rides if you can.

A wide open price point. If you like CF, you can get a very nice CF bike with mid level gruppo and wheelset in this price range. Every member on this board has preference for a particular brand bike and gruppo mfr. Word up is that many are very similar so it many times comes down to personal preference as to what catches your eye.
Just after Christmas is the best time to buy a bike. If you can turn a wrench...consider ordering a bike on line...what I always do...buy out of season at a great discount...last years models generally vary only in paint job.

$2200

$1800

$2300

*hugs specialized*

Those are MSRP too, so your LBS will likely have them lower than that. 2K gets you a lot of bike. Find something you like and go with it. As long as you post pictures here after you buy it, we will approve

I hate the tarmac. I just don't like how the top tube meets the seat tube.

Build up a TI Habanero with 105, a Reynolds fork, and nice other components. The cost might be a little higher than comparable off-the-shelf bikes, but the Ti frame will last you forever, and the experience of building it will be priceless.

What's wrong with those engineers at Specialized? Can't they even match the size of the seat tube to the seat post?

Well how's your fit on your current bike. If you fit off the rack bikes then there a whole lot better value but if you have fit issues with your current bike then NOTHING will help your riding better than getting a custom frame.

Regards, Anthony

I would take my time and look for a good deal. Don't focus so much on name brand but go for frame material (carbon fiber), groupset and wheelset. I would also consider last year models discounted that are in your price range. You could probably find a nice previous year model bike that might have retailed for $1000 more than the highest end of your price range if you hunt around.

Test ride them though to make sure the bike is a good fit. A $3500 bike isn't worth a damn if it doesn't fit right.

Well clearly they CAN do it because they did it on the Transition...the question is do you want to sacrifice the use of an off the shelf seat post? Probably not unless it is a race against the clock.

Personally I think they didn't do too bad of a job with this one.

The Specialized Tarmac Comp, full carbon monocoque with the new ten speed 105 is $2200 MSRP... You might be able to get a price better than that if you can find any 2005s in your size still hanging around at a local dealer.

What, and settle for Ultegra/105 9 speed?

Why would anyone want to do that?

if it was a LOT cheaper... not $2200, but way under $2k. you still get a great frame.

maybe there's some dealers left with the 2005 tarmac model that uses ultegra 6600, I think it sold for $2700-2800 in spring/summer of 2005. Might be $2250 now if you find the right place.
