New Years Day Ride in Eugene

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

New Years Day Ride in Eugene

Starts at 9:00 AM on Sunday 1/1/2006 at the 5th Street Public Market, Eugene, Oregon. 50 miles rain or shine (usually rain)

Always a good turn out (75 riders last year), and a fun bunch of riders.

If it's a tandem, come in the summer for the Northwest Tandem Rally, or the Co-Motion Tandem Stage Races, if it's not a tandem, just come out to ride!!

FormulaBen, you are one jet setting dude! Have a great new year where ever you turn up. It's only 3 1/2 months to the Monster Cookie Ride, get a sub-pilot lined up!

Hey I am curious if this ride will be at an intense pace. I don't own a road bike, and I haven't done 50 miles in a while, but I am down for the ride. I'd like to meet some locals who frequent Bikeforums.

Peace

Dave

Wow, another Eugenius, excellent!

Last year it was quite a diverse group, 75 riders on a nice morning. The pace is all over the place, seems to be something for everyone, and same for distance. The route goes out to Coburg, then north, some people stop in Coburg and pile into a cafe and have coffee and breakfast, and amble back to town for 20 miles. Others paceline it non-stop at 25 mph for 50 miles. Choose your poison.

Let me know if you are going, we can meet up.

Sounds good. I will not be going anywhere near 25 mph. For this kinda ride, I think a pace between 10-15. So I can socialize a bit, and enjoy the scenery (weather permitting). Yea, if its appropriate, I'll show off my Bikeforums Jersey I got a couple years ago.

I just have one bike, my Cannondale F400 that I've toured on. Thats what I'll be sporting. What are you guys riding? I am also down to meet up. I live very close to the starting point, right off the river path near skinners butte actually. Let me know.

I would love to do this ride, unfortunately saturday is my last harrah before getting serious in my diet/training for this spring/summer. So I probably won't even be awake by 9.

Actually, I cannot make it. I've been having late nights and this one is no different. I need to catch up on some sleep. I might take a ride later in the day though. I may check on here to see if anyone is up for an afternoon ride if the weather is decent.

Happy New Year

Dave
