Whats Cat 1-2-3-4-5?

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I heard that... The racing in NorCal is savage, I've seen some guys in Cat 4 that can do a VAM of over 1300 for 20+ minutes.

Pretty much. I told myself that I always want cycling to be fun.

I used to do an "underground crit" every week back in the day with all the local racers. I could hold my own for the most part, and there were moments that riding in a huge pack, taking turns at 25-30mph was a lot of fun...but a lot of the time, it was just sketchy and stressful.

I like to go fast and ride in a pack and everything, but I get nervous when there's a squirrelly guy next to me trying to make a move when he shouldn't be. That probably makes me a nancy pants, but I'm ok with that.

The other downside, Phoenix is all about crit racing and there aren't that many road races. I'd more susceptible to racing if I didn't have to go around the same mile stretch 20 times.
