How many Nishiki riders/fans are on this board?

I've been thinking about starting a Nishiki fan site, where one could post pictures of their Nishikis, but I'm wondering if there would be a draw for such a site.

I don't think that Nishiki bikes are old enough to be considered "Classic & Vintage", but I may re-post this in that forum as well.

I have a old Nishiki I converted to fixed gear. I love the beast; it must weigh 30lbs! I think you could run it over with a compact car and the frame would still be straight!

Although, I just recieved my new Mark V last week, and she has my undivided attention at the moment.

Count me in! I have a pre-Cunningham 1989 Nishiki Ariel. I picked it up for $20 at a garage sale. I've added Bontrager tires, Bontrager seat, and a Suntour suspension fork. I have the original fork and I just aquired an original, signed Nishiki saddle. I also have original equipment Nishiki toe clips. That's the original owners manual in the picture. I'm considering returning it to factory stock. Right now I use it on the local MUP and my son uses it on MTB trails.

i have a nishiki. It was my moms old one and i rode it for about 3 years. Those bikes can take a beating and i love them.

My team was sponsored by Nishiki in '87 and '88. In '87 I had a maroon Suntour Superbe Pro equipped Comp III and in '88 I had a blue/white fade Ultegra equipped Team Pro. Both bikes had wicked steep angles.

FWIW, both broke during the racing season.

I bought my first Nishiki, a International from "The Bicycle Shop" in Concord Ca. This would of been around 1972, I was in seventh grade. A year later I bought a "Road Comp" which was a nice bike with tubulars and decent parts. I have looked for Road Comps on the Vintage forum but have not seen any. Mine was bright green with chromed stays. They are long gone now, I would love to ride one again just to compare with my bikes I ride now.

Although not a roadbike, I am a fan and former owner of a 1990 Nishiki Ariel (Cunningham designed) MTB. I stupidly gave it away a while ago but still bear many fond memories of that bike. Last summer, a Nishiki fan contacted me via email and that evolved into a thread on my blog. I'm very happy to see that there are others out there who still enjoy their Nishikis. I'm also a fan of Mantis bikes for obvious reasons.

My first bike as an adult cyclist was a Nishiki Sport, bought new for about $200. I rode it for a couple of years with my local touring club -- even did my first century on it.

It was when I road a club member's Olmo that I started my fascination with Italian mounts, which lead me to Bianchi.

I don't know what happened to my Nishiki. I wish I still had it for old times' sake, as I still have a soft spot for it.

My sister's both had some classics....one was a nice lookng silver Nishiki 10 speed, and the other was a birght yellow Joplin 10 speed. Looking back, I wish we had saved those, although my 87 Schwinn World Sport is being put to good use by my father in law.

My first road bike was a Nishike Prestige.I got it for Christmas in 1985.For some reason I thought I could do a triathlon and needed a bike.. It cost just under $400 at the time.. I used it until last year.. Except for some rust spots the thing is still in pretty good shape..Never did the triathlon but did enjoy the bike..

My mom rides a 1995 Nishiki Pueblo mountain bike with slicks.

It's purple, and heavy, but it simply cannot be busted.

Ahhhhhhh I remember so fondly my Nishiki Competition that I got in 1979. I really loved that bike and I regret giving it away to the babysitter's husband, who never rode it and ended up giving it away.

There are some 'new' Nishikis floating around ebay. Almost bought one once.

hey im wanting to get into Road Bicycling and i was looking at a Century by Nishiki today. I was wondering If it would be a good bike for me to get, brand new. Its $279 down from $350, which was down from like $650. Any advice???

The old Nishikis (pre '90) are way better than the newer ones. I remember my 2nd road bike was a Olympic that I now very much regret selling. Oh, sooooooo smooth.

My two bikes are both Nishiki hybrids; the older, steel Country Sport (ca 1996) now serves as the winter bike, with studded tyres permanently on. The younger is Alu frame from 2001 or so (cannot remember the model), it's my summer bike for commuting, touring and whatnot.

Nishiki hybrids are fairly popular around here. They're considered one notch up from a supermarket bike, sort of entry level bikes sold at LBS.

Yeah. I had heard that Nishiki retreated into the European market and are still pretty strong there. Perhaps they will re-enter the US market someday like Scott did and come back in revitalised. I do think they need someone like another Richard Cunningham to spruce up their street cred though.
