Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I like my Zurich so much, I couldn't resist getting another when I saw one for sale. This time a hand signed Greg Lemond Malliot Jaune. I'm trying to decide whether or not to switch everything over. The seller also decided to leave on the Campy headset.

2001 (?) Lemond Victoire

Just bought this. The seller says it's a 2000 but he purchased it in 2001. I didn't think they started making this until 2001. Can anybody confirm? 59cm, Full Ultegra.

2002 LeMond Victoire - BikePedia

Amazing bike. I foolishly sold mine a while back and it was an amazing ride. Great climber, super great frame and components.

Amazing rides. Best value for the money. Make sure the geometry suits you. I have a long torso and short legs and fits me perfect.

I love the retro look. Its such a luxury to get one of these if you already have a bike. Some day..

i know its a little irrelevant but what do those weigh ?

Well the Brooks saddle doesn't help but I'd say 21/22 lbs maybe a tad bit more.

Ridiculous weight (rel light) for such a beauty! I had a 2013 specialized cx crux that weighed 9 kg with pedals, sigma speedometer and 2 bottle cages. I guess you are quoting gross weight with all the shizzle. Thats my cx experimental past (wish i could show a picture of a Le Monde):

Almost 30 years from then and we talking 1kg difference between a road bike and todays cx bike. Not much changed

My 2005 Etape entry level but a nice ride, was going to sell it but can't seem to part with it.
I replaced 52, 42 chainrings with 50, 39, small ring is 30, and put 11/30 cassette on it, it's now my hill country bike.

Is there a consensus about which model framesets are the most desirable? I've got an itch for an 853 Lemond frameset to put some Campy I've got on it but I don't particularly want the carbon/steel models.

I think they made the full 853 frames from about 1998 to 2003. The top lines were the Maillot Jaune and Zurich. Then came the Buenos Aries, Tourmalet and Nevada City, in that order.
You can find old catalogs on the wayback machine.

If I ever see a tete in my size I will probably buy it.
