Italian bike mfgrs w/traditional steel frame geometry?
Any Italian bicycle makers out there that still have good, quality, steel frame bikes with traditional horizontal top tube geometry, AND don't cost a zillion dollars???
Since Bianchi has pretty much embraced the stupid compact geometry, I'm pretty much decided Bianchi isn't for me anymore.
And I want a new bike this year.
Suggestions?

Colnago Master Light traditional enough for you? I think Cinelli still has their version, as well. Both made in Italy.

I think Pinarello still makes steel, but it might cost you half a zillion!

Viner Competition and Cinelli Super Corsa are both available at GVH Bikes (other places too) and are well under a zillion clams. Mercian (not Italian but very traditional) might be the best steel deal around for custom geometry if you want it. Custom or standard still under your upper limit.

Basso Viper - Handmade in Basso's facilities in Dueville, Italy
The fit and finish on my aluminum Basso is flawless. The picture is of the steel Viper.

ITALIAN and TRADITIONAL = VINER VINER VINER. A complete Ultegra Viner all lugged steel Competition model will cost $1350-$1850 depending on where you buy it and if it's on sale. They may be one of best deals around.
Someone suggested Mercian - which is British not Italian. A stock Mercian frame shipped to USA will be about $900. Add an Ultegra group with hubs/ wheels for $1,200 and you're looking at around $2,100 for the Mercian. The Mercian will be a lot more expensive. The Viner may be best hand-built real Italian (real anything but Asian) steel lugged true quality bike deal out there right now. I am building a Mercian now, but I had the Ultegra components. I wanted to do a Campy Record build on it but could not afford, considering I already had the Shimano group.

Torelli is actually an american company, but they import Italian made frames. I'd put the ride quality of my entry level (Gran Sasso) frame against any sub $2k steel frame out there.

Someone earlier suggestions Viner. One of their latest bikes was recently reviewed in Procycling(?)
Anyways, there is an outstanding deal on a steel Viner
