Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Performance® Bikes Aloft 2 Storage Rack / Nashbar Steel Bike Rack - anyone got one?

I need a bike storage rack for my two bikes when I move in a month and a half. So far the Performance® Bikes Aloft 2 Storage Rack looks to be the best bet for the money and wanted to know if anyone had any opinions of it.

https://www.performancebike.com/shop/...tegory_ID=6600

https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...eid=&pagename=

Storing two road bikes 58 - 60cm. Performance online help says it's 6.5' tall, 2.5' deep.

I have the Performance version. It works fine and seems really strong. I have my lighter roadie on top, and my heavier cyclocross bike on the bottom.

I got it because I wanted something that was standalone(i.e. didn't have to lean against the wall or touch the ceiling.) I was actually thinking about getting another one.

I like my bikes aloft, it goes from the garage in the summer to the basement in the winter. Good that you mentioned frame size because it'll hold a 54cm no problem, but my wife's 52cm tri bike can't fit because the frame triangle is too small.

my 51cm dolce fit on it! however the bars weren't even... staggered them so the bike(s) hung straight!

Thanks for the feedback ya'll. If anyone has a tape measure handy, could you double check the total depth, length of the rear legs, and approx how far a standard roadie pushes out from the wall for me? I'm working with a 12'x13' sized room to fit my two bikes (on the stand), two computer desks, a couple filing cabinets and some free space for a music stand (and that's just what I KNOW will be in there!)

That's right, I remember, you have a ruby don't you? Standard roundish tube frames should fit down to a much smaller frame size, but with the tri bike's aero tubes, there's soooo little room.

tale.. try staggering the height of the arms, so one arm supports the front end of the top tube, and the other arm supports the joint between the seat stays and the seat tube.

Seems that you could get a few more cm out of it that way...

I so wanted to buy one of those b/c I like the concept, but I talked myself out of it since I hang mine in the garage and that only costs $2 per bike.

Maybe I'll build one, hmmm........

I've heard a lot of mixed reviews about the 'gravity' style racks. Mostly that they aren't very sturdy and that the 'optional' bolt to secure the top to the wall isn't very 'optional' at all if you want any piece of mind.

msheron - thanks for double checking for me. Sounds about like what the guy at Performance told me.

lecturman - I'm ordering one tomorrow, I could probably get two shipped for only a bit more. Sure you don't want in on this deal? I'll probably end up having to call them because if there's over size charges it always messes with my Team Performance 'free 2nd day' shipping upgrade. Had to call them on my wheel order.

No thanks, I appreciate the offer though. I'll stick to my ghetto method for now. My wife would kill me if I spent money on more bike stuff this week.

Heads up to anyone thinking of ordering this thing this week - Amazon.com has it listed (through PerformanceBike) but they are only charging 8.00 shipping vs Performance's 18.00! I don't get my Performance Points for it, but still saving money in the long run ($3.00, but that's like a gallon of gas! )
