Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

A few questions

Hi everyone,

i'm looking at buying a Felt F90 (very basic, but thats me ) and i was wondering if anyone has one, and what they think of it? also, in the "tech specs" under pedals, it says "Aluminum Pedal with Clips and Straps". when it says clips, does it mean as in road shoes? i was just wondering, as i have a pair, and would like to able to use them.

thanks for any responses,

john

You can use any shoes with toe clips (except maybe bulky MTB shoes that are too big). Some old-style road racing shoes come with slotted cleats that bind with the back edge of these pedals.

You can use any shoe with it. It doesn't have cleats that snap on like clipless pedals, if that's what you're thinking.

Ah yes -- thanks for the walk down memory lane, johnny 99! I had a pair of leather Vittoria road shoes (circa 1985) with that type of cleat for use on this kind of platform pedal. Just tossed 'em out recently. They served me well until I upgraded to clipless.

Honestly, we're not trying to be obtuse. A toe clip holds your foot in place on the pedal and prevents it from slipping. It allows you to apply force to the crank during the entire pedal stroke, not just when you're pushing down.

Basically, it lets you also pull up, thereby generating more power by using different muscle groups and enhancing endurance by spreading out the workload to other muscles.
