Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rocket7 Shoes...Anyone try them???

I went to the LBS tonight to help a friend pick out a new bike. While she was getting measured I walked around the store. I ended up in the shoe section. A big 50% off sign caught my eye. It was over the Rocket7 Track shoes -- https://www.rocket7.com/index.htm. I have been eyeballing these shoes for the last few months but did not want to pay $360 for them. I have tried the shoe on several times and knew I preferred the track version over the road version because I like the fact that the shoe has laces with a zipper that covers the laces. I ended up walking out of the store with shoes for $180. These shoes feel like they were custom made for my feet. The carbon soles are WAY stiffer than the soles on my Specialized Pro Carbons.

Has anyone else tried this shoe? How are they compared to Sidi's or Nike's? The are the lightest shoes I have ever felt. I can't wait to try them out.

Oddly enough, I do have a pair of Rocket7 carbon sole road shoes. These are the custom made version. Rocket sends you a mold kit (quite messy) for your feet; you ship the completed molds back to the factory, and your shoes are ready in about six weeks. I've had mine for about five years and they are still in decent shape. This is probably a good option if you have odd or unequal shaped feet, like me.

Thanks for your input. Not many people have heard of this company. It is definitely the lightest shoe I have ever encountered. I look forward to putting in many miles wearing these shoes.

Looks like you got a good deal, the Rocket7 website lists all their road and mountain shoes at $439.

Interestingly these are the first mountain bike shoes I've seen that are sold specifically for use ONLY with the Crank Brothers Eggbeater and Candy pedals. (Not surprising, really, since NORBA championships and the 2004 Olympic XC race were won on Eggbeaters).

too bad they're double the price of the top-end Specialized or Adidas MTB shoes.

I STILL have not been able to try my R7's out. Yesterday was my off day and today it is raining like crazy. Just from handling these shoes, and examining the construction, I am just amazed. They are not built like any other shoe I have seen. The carbon on the soles is actually real carbon. It is more like the carbon that my bike is made out of. When comparing it to the carbon soles of my other shoes, it's NOT the same. The carbon sole extends up and wraps around the heal of your foot for maximum stiffness. Even with my cleats installed, they are still about half the weight of other shoes. I now see why these shoes cost so much.

One of my co-workers has a pair, but I cannot speak from experience myself. He absolutely raves about them. He also had the custom fitting done (not sure if the mold or in-store), and I believe spent close to $500 on them. OUCH! Of couse, he rides a Seven so I gues it all had to match!

500.00 seems like a lot of scratch, but I go through three or four pairs of running shoes a year and easily spend more than that, and my Sidis while long lived will have to be replaced soon. When you factor uin all the customizations, and specificity, i think youre really only paying a 20% premium for custom shoes. I mean no adapters, they just fit your pedal system, no leWedges, they compensate for goofy feet, no blisters, hot spots, lowestr stack height imaginable, ...

It is money well spent. Mine aren't even custom and they feel better than any shoe I have ever tried on.

I have Rocket 7s custom molded. They are extremely light and extremely comfortable. Only downside, other than price is that they are not very durable. The leather uppers are very thin, and subject to wear. Also the little pads on the heel come off easily ( and do not walk on them with the pad gone or you will destroy a $500 pair of shoes pretty quickly).
