good uses for a trainer?
So my sisters got me a Kurt Kinetic trainer for Christmas and are disappointed that I don't use it enough. What are good uses for it when one lives in an environment where riding outdoors usually isn't an issue?
I guess I'll try some one-legged pedaling drills since I feel much safer doing that on a trainer than doing that outside. The Spinerval DVD that came with the trainer suggests at one point doing the drills in one's highest gear, focusing on smooth spinning. Anything else you would suggest I do on a trainer that's much better done there than outside? For what it's worth, my main cycling goal for 2006 is to become a faster climber. And I have no plans for racing, so massive bursts of speed aren't as important to me as developing continuous, steady power.
Also, I live in an apartment and I'm only home early in the morning or late at night, so things that don't make a huge amount of noise are preferable. (No sprinting drills!) One-legged drills seems to fit the bill in that regard since I can't spin fast enough with one leg to generate much noise.
