Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Korso 600mi+ review.

Well after riding the Korso's for at least 600 miles, I can safely guage the experience with these wheels.

First of all, I am not a light rider. I weigh 183 right now and probably around 187 when I got the wheels. I climb often and do many descents.

One thing that frustrated me with these wheels is the fact that they did not provide any rim tape. It took me a few trips to the LBS to find rim tape that did not suck.

These wheels have been abused and used through some of the worst potholes that the San Fernando Valley can offer. I've hit dips at 30+mph without any issues. Yesterday, as I was trying to put the bike on the hooks, I slipped and went down with the bike---Hitting the front wheel at an angle which surely would have untrued most wheels. These wheels are still VERY true after all the abuse.

Light...I wouldn't say they're VERY LIGHT. 16/20 bladed spokes, they don't seem to make THAT much of a difference. I probably saw a .5mph gain of overall speed(it might just be mind games) at 20mph+.

Descents--Awesome wheels, they feel like rails compared to my old wheels(bontrager selects).

They surely do not flex under my weight and that is probaby the best thing about these wheels. I was expecting some flex with the 16/20 combo; however, I was surprised to find out zero flex.

For the $89 I spent on these wheels, I wish would have bought another set.

These wheels kick ass and I hope to ride them until they complete wear.

PS: Take the Korso stickers off, they look fugly. The bike looks sweet with these wheels

Good luck and I hope this helps anyone that is hesitant to buy them

Very nice report, but unless you can find a random set in an old SuperGo, now Performance location, these wheels at that price are history. I've had mine for about a month and I am equally pleased with the purchase. I am running them on my Allez Pro until my new wheels arrive and I'm amazed at the ride and performance - and I weigh 220lbs!

They're no longer being sold, although Performance has their own version of the wheels but not at that kind of price.

Thanks for the review, glad 600 miles later they still match my initial experience with them. Spooky smooth rolling. Due to a poorly adjusted front der I managed to feed my chain into the rear wheel recently at about 30mph. Slightly bent one spoke and knocked the wheel just a bit out of true (and they shipped PERFECTLY true). Half turn on that spoke put it right again. The chain was bent and ruined, barely got me home. I'd say that's a tough wheel!
Now with my new bike I'll probably swap out the DA wheelset and set it aside for race day, riding the Korsos for training. Haven't pulled the stickers yet - doesn't really make much diff to me since I put on reflective tape for night riding anyway.

Thanks again, I sure hope Performance picks these up and offers them now that SuperGo has been folded into them. I did notice they are offering the set on one of their complete bikes though, forget which model.

+1. I've put a few hundred on mine on some pretty awful roads here in San Francisco. They've been bombproof for me. I used generic Performance cloth rim tape. Definitely de-sticker them, they're nice and stealthy that way.

Also, the hubs are really quite decent. I think they're Formulas... they're smoooooth and spin forever.

I ran into a guy on the Santa Ana River Trail yesterday, at the "break area" by Anaheim Stadium. He was running the Korsos and I asked him about the wheels. He said he loved them, and he's even raced on them once or twice. He's had them for a while, he said, and only had to true them once.

*shrug*

For whatever that's worth, I suppose.
