Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Yeah.............minolta, what is your hangup with Trek? I have seen you on a couple of post rag them. There are alot of Trek owners here who like their bike. I have a Trek, but I like other bikes, I don't rag their bike or company that they bought from. Sounds like you dated the Trek owner's kid and they dumped you.

I think his father was murdered by a Trek weilding assailant.

In Toronto, parts theft is the new thing, the cool, the money. I used to deal with it by filling in all allen heads with silicone glue. or parking safely in front of a donut shop. Ridiculous.

Watch some MTV videos , see if any rappers have Koolstops hanging from 7 carat gold chains...fo' shizzle.

This is a theft-proof bike by Puma-I saw it at the NY MOMA-very smart, the downtube is the security wire, cut it, and the bike can't be ridden. Lock built in.

looky
Bike theft sucks, but the real problem is the apathy from police.

weirdest thing taken from my bike was the quick release for the seat. Didn't notice it until after I started to ride back to the dorm and sat down.

Okay, I'll go easy on the Trek-bashing...

But still, you know how I feel about them

If they had just slipped the rubber out of the carrier, I would be thinking they were hoping you'd crask when you needed to stop and couldn't.
I had a situation last summer when someone unscrewed my front wheel QR. Left the bike undisturbed other than that. After lunch, I was lucky to spot it. I picked the bike up to turn it 180 deg. and the wheel fell out of the fork and got hung up on the brake caliper...a good reason to keep them adjusted tight.

well... I have a update on this issue.

I had made a police report the afternoon after it happened. this morning they called my cellphone. they have caught three kids that have been arrested for this type of thing all through town. unfortunately the parts were not found. But have were caught steeling some commuters panniers in front of the same cafe. Along with other petty crape like stelling x-mas decorations a few weeks back, and stuff like that. since tree of the four kids are 17, hopefully they'll be charged as adults.

I gotta admit, you're lucky. They stole my whole bike and lock ... it was my beater, not worth much, but I've had it for about 12 years and it travelled with me with through HS, college and moving into DC ...
