Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am the proud owner of a super fast December 2004 Trek 1000 SL.

This bike is responsive and reliable- a true joy to ride and a reliable steed.

I have fitted a new chain since new, but have had no mechanical problems. The wheels are
bombproof!

I am running Vittoria Rubino Pro (folding) 700x 23mm tyres.

Currently use a SKS race blade (back only) as I've been commuting 14 miles each day on this bike
over the winter.

Now, spring is here, and it is sunny and warm in the UK!

What's wrong with a Toyota Camry? I don't own one but I know they're pretty reliable cars.

Case in point. There's nothing wrong with them and they are reliable.

My baby

I've put a bit of bling on this baby.
Trying to go for a white theme.
Bontrager white bar tape
Bontrager white bottle cages
Selle Italia C2
Vittoria Pro tyres (I think)
Mostly cheap white upgrades mostly because it's my commuter and because it's a trek 1000.

I know I should have my bars sitting higher, but I don't care, because I'm happy with it.

Anyways, love her to bits.

Really, man. I own a different bike but thought this was a cool *** thread until it descended into comparisons. Post your rockin 1000 pics and keep ridin!

I don't think there's anything stock left on my bike. Oh wait, the handlebars and stem are the same. I get all my boyfriend's hand me downs. He recently upgraded to SRAM so I have Dura Ace on my bike. I love my 1000 and she's got almost 7500 miles on her in less than 3 years. My first bike ever. And she certainly changed my life.

I keep waffling between the Orbea Diva or the Pinerello F4 :13 FP and am saving my pennies for a new frame. Once I get the frame, I'll transfer everything over to my new bike.

Currently, my 1000 does road races and time trials along with every day rides. When I do decide on my new frame, I'll strip her down and turn her into my full time TT bike

2006 Trek 1000 SL. Stock except the 105 pedals. Will upgrade saddle and wheels to Selle Italia SLR and Bontrager Race Lite X soon.

hmmm....I did something very similar looking to my Trek. Only it was a 5000 instead of a 1000. And instead of being on the road, the frame is wall art

I wouldn't mind getting a Trek 1000 and throwing SRAM on it to use it for crits.

Before:

After:

Wrapped the frame in Vinyl...
Bontrager Inform SL
Shimano R600 Crankset
Shimano 105 FD/RD
It's fast, was cheap (parts were used) and rides nice!

Trek 1000 (camera phone picture)

Here's mine. Not sure exactly what year it is. I bought it off CL for $300 last year and I've loved every minute of it.

Since buying, I've only changed the saddle and pedals, both of which were given to me. Looking forward to upgrading, hopefully this fall. :)

Sorry if this doesn't apply, but here's my Trek 1400 from 1990 (with some upgrades):
