My bike will see very little pavement, but rather the smooth crushed limestone of the Yough trail...is there a better tire i should switch to for this over my factory Kendas?

Get some 32mm cross type tires - semi-slick center with knobby edges. Check that the tire will fit the bike/fork/brakes before you buy/install.

I doubt that 32mm tires will fit unless your bike has cantilever brakes. With standard side pull brakes, you'll be lucky if you can fit 28mm tires. Many bikes will only accept 25mm tires, but a 25mm touring-style tire should be fine on a hardpacked trail unless it is muddy.

My bike has Avid Digit 3 brakes and already has 28mm tires...my last bike had the same brakes and i had a 2.1" tire on it...my concern would more be for the width of the rim. Xerolite XR-4 wheels and they seem really narrow, i'm not sure on the exact width of them though, but brake and fork clearance shouldn't be a problem.

I just looked up the width of those wheels and they're 25mm...would 32mm on something like that be a problem? THe 2.1" tires I had on my old bike for this trail are way bigger than that...53mm, so I don't see being able to go with that. I dunno, I think these tires will do fine, I may run them and see, but I'd rather not sacrifice a set of wheels to be sure.
