Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

How Long To Get Your Bike On Order???

i'm currently on edge awaiting my Roubaix to come in from Specialized... its been two weeks now, since i test rode it and told my LBS..."get me one in my size(61cm) and i'll take it!" its my first road bike, so i'm anxious!

have you guys out there in the BFsphere had similar idle times, waiting for the mfgr to send it to the LBS? is this something to be expected or should i look elsewhere?

for those in San Diego, its BL in Solana Beach...i really like the store and the people...but damn...i'm ready to spend money and can't!

This is something to be expected. With my club we can order bikes through our sponsor bike shop for dealer price, I've been waiting two weeks for mine, most are considered pretty lucky to get one in 3 weeks.

One guy on the team ordered a Giant TCR Advanced in October and still hasn't gotten it... Another kid ordered a TCR Carbon 2 last year and it took about 3 months to arrive. However, he ordered that during the height of demand for bikes.

I would expect your bike in another 1-2 weeks. Sorry.

The wait time on a Richard Sachs custom is over 4 years. A Vanilla is around 2. A custom paint job from Acme Bicycle Paint shop is 18 months and counting.

If the Roubaix is everything you hope it to be, it won't be long before these type of waits will be tolerable.

Enjoy this time - anticipation is a good thing.

yikes...
understood for the custom stuff and higher end bikes but this is a roubaix, a fairly popular bike. i work in manufacturing, so i understand the demand plannin/capacity issues etc...just odd this early in the year.

Look at it his way. When the bike finally arrives, you will ride it and enjoy it. Which will lead you into thinking about all sorts of accessories and later, upgrades. Each one of these items will constitute a series of decisions, searchs and management of the family funds - all of which is driven by emotion. Throw in the anticipation from when these items are thought about until they become a reality - it becomes a never ending cycle and you my friend, will be HOOKED!

Rad's truly remarkable and patient view on this notwithstanding...

It may depend on the dealer who ordered the bike. Higher volume=higher priority. When I bought my C'dale this time last year they had to order it. They estimated two weeks or so, but since they're a high volume mega-dealer it took 3 days. I'm convinced it was shipped two-day air since their wasn't one of these (same model, size, color) in the region before or for weeks after.

yeah i think thats part of the explanation...in my company, we ship to priority customers, no matter what. i dunno though they're a pretty high end shop, alot of tarmacs, S-works, with orbeas, and colnagos, sprinkled in. mainly spesh though.

Rad - yea thats the whole delayed gratification thing. i usually enjoy that sort of thing...as recent college grad, its the instant enjoyment/satisfication, everything new fast and now thats definitely been ingrained in me and my generation

I ordered a custom build on a Saturday morning and had it Sunday afternoon. The shop had everything in stock, Kuota Kharma in my size, Campy Chorus group, and Vento wheels. The only thing they didn't have were the Deda Magic bars, so they upgraded that to Deda Newton at no charge (not that the difference is that much anyway.) There were lots of choices, all in stock. It helped that I bought it last February during the very slow winter.

I wouldn't wait for a bike, there are lots of choices around that you don't have to wait for.

I ordered my Ibex from IbexBikes on a Tuesday morning. It was on my door Wednesday afternoon. I did not pay for next day air. When I ordered my Gary Fisher MTB a few years back through the LBS, it took close to 6 weeks, and then a week more to get it put together by them since the LBS was closed due to renovations.

Hmmm... sounds familiar. I was going to buy a Giant TCR comp 0 from a semi-LBS. 'semi' in that it's close to where my family has a beach house, which i visit several times a year. They're super friendly, and have a great shop considering the size and the area. Problem is that they'd have to order it, which would mean it arriving around March, and I'd basically be paying MSRP.

I ended up buying an '05 comp 0 for a better price from a shop in Brooklyn. If i wanted an '06 comp 0, they had those too. Wish i could have given my business to the semi-lbs, but the deal was too good to say no to, and the B'lyn shop had what i wanted when i wanted it.

On the flipside of your experience I ordered my Rivendell Romulus on 02/17/06. It was built on 02/18/06. It shipped on 02/21/06. I should have it by Friday.

I ordered my Comp and got it in a week. Your dealer has the ability to check stock at different warehouses around the country and should be able to tell you how long it will take. I knew when I ordered that the Phoenix warehouse had 20 in my size in stock when I ordered, and because it was coming from Phoenix that it would take a week to get...which it did.

Bike shops generally place orders once a week, so if they order on Monday and you said to order it on Tuesday they will probably wait until the next Monday to get the order in so there could be as much as a full week delay there too.

I ordered my IF frame in May 2004 and received it in August. It has been well worth the wait.

Had the bike I ordered been in stock, it would have been about a week. But since it wasn't, it looks like a month from ordering to receiving. It would have been too easy to get my new bike in a week , so now begins the waiting game.

If all goes well, no more than a month.

I ordered my IRO on Feb. 9th, got an email on Mon. saying it was scheduled to be built, and checked my account statement today to verify the the payment has been authorized. Hopefully this means that my new bike will be here sometime next week. The waiting is killing me.

I had to wait about 14 weeks for my "crappy" Trek last Spring.

The frustration of the wait is directly proportional to the pleasantness of the weather, though the correlation may not be as strong if you're in SoCal.

I ordered a Roubiax Pro yesterday and it is suppose to be here next monday or tuesday. I guess it really does matter what they actually have in stock and who they like to ship to first.

It all depends on if the frame size you want is available or if you have to wait for a frame to be built. the manufacturers are going to have the largest selling sizes in higher on hand inventory and if they have a run on one of the fringe sizes then the wait begins. also if its the carbon roubiax than that has to come from overseas. I was told on my 2006 Cannondale six13 team that my wait was going to be 6-8 weeks ,this was before I placed the order. fortunately it only took 4 weeks. these are made in PA only one state away from me so shipping is like one day ups then the dealer assembled it within a couple of hours after it's arrival. so the wait wasn't too bad. the bike was well worth the wait.

Your bike shouldn't be too much longer, most people that wait a while order their bikes between april and august, the time with the highest demand.

I'm surprized it's taking that long, I just bought a 61cm Roubaix Expert Double two weeks ago. My LBS didn't have it in-store but it only took 2 days to ship from Specialized's Salt Lake City wherehouse to SoCal.

Yes its one of the carbon ones...ughh. i should check on that. from what i'm gathering the LBS should be able to give me an accurate estimate of when the bike will arrive, right?
i'll check and see what they say, i called a week ago and the guy there said it'd be here early this week. is Specialized known for slow response times with these matters?
