Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Colorado riders - what's the weather like in August and September?

I'd LOVE to be able to do the Bicycle Tour of Colorado this year, but it comes right in the middle of the busiest time of the year for work - and I can't take any time off for it.

So, I am thinking about putting together a little tour of my own, in late August or anytime in September. I want to ride in the mountainous part (ok, majority!) of the state.

So what's the weather like there that time of year? Snow and cold? Moderate and mix of sun/rain?

Thanks!
Andy

It's beautiful, if not a little warm... Afternoon thunderstorms will be your biggest concern at that time of year. They can come out of nowhere and be really, really fierce. Other than that though, you should be fine if you start in the morning and make sure you're in by 2-3pm. Unless you like getting rained/hailed on or struck by lightning.

Gonna be 60 today..

By the way, - Ride the Rockies >>>>> Tour of Colorado.

Gorgeous weather in the mountains during that time of year. It's a little chilly in the mornings (might get down into the low 40s early in the morning), but as the day wears on the highs typically climb into the 70s or even the low 80s. Also, the aspen start turning in late August or early September, so the scenery is spectacular that time of year.

To give you an idea of how mild Colorado weather can be, the high today in Denver will be 70 degrees.

preaty warm with a chance of nasty rain or wind in the afternoon. Could snow on some of the passes. But will be excellent riding weather.

Near the end of September you are very likely to have snow in the higher passes (Loveland Pass, for example). Otherwise, it is likely to be delightful.
