Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Another Italian Bike Project--This time for the wife!

I love building bikes and all of my bikes are constantly in a state of upgrade.

In contrast, My wife's been riding for some time now and has never really asked for an equipment upgrade. She's logged thousands of miles on her trusty Specialized Allez which is a steel lugged mid90s road frame identical to the original Marc DeNucci designed Specialized Sirrus of the early 90s.

However, she once visited the Colnago booth at Interbike and on that occasion was one of the first times I had seen that attentive look in her eyes similar to the one that I often get when I'm coveting bicycle equipment. She's never forgotten that moment and since then I've kept an eye out for a Colnago frameset that would be just right for her. To add to the attraction, she's also amused at the random attention I get with my own Colnago when we are on rides together. So what better bike to get for her?

Well I've finally found one that she can call her own. It will be a basis for a new project for me. I'll have to begin collecting all of the Campagnolo hardware necessary for the buildup. But she'll ultimately have her own Italian Bike.

Here's the foundation for my new Italian bike project. But this time I have a legitimate excuse to buy equipment!

Just curious, how much will it cost total to build a bike like that. I am brnad new to cycling and I already want to start a build of my own, even though it may take a LONG time!

Sweet frame!

I am also doing an Italian bike project! My first REAL road bike, after a year of riding on an old fuji. I just got fitted today for an OLMO Antares, and am having the bike shop build it up from scratch for me. I'll have pics in a week!

Colnago frame question...

I thought braze-on mount front derailleurs were mostly used on bikes that had weirdly aero shaped seat tubes? That frame appears to have a round seattube which would be compatible with a clamp type front derailleur, but it has a braze-on mount on it.

???
