Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Fuji Ace Revamped w/pics

Previously, On Road Bike Rebuild

Episode 2: Upgrading the missis'...
Sora shifters -----------> 105
Sora Rear Der----------> 105
2200 Front Der-------> Tiagra
Sunrace 12-14 8-spd--->Sunrace JuJu 12-14 9-spd
ALX r500w/generic hubs----->Supergo Korso wheels
Generic Fuji saddle------> Specialized Jett 155 (her pride and joy)

Before (sorry forgot to take a before pic so here's one from Fuji's webpage):

Mostly Naked:

Yes it's scratched because, when it was still on my bike, I took a spill doing a u-turn at 5mph right after a rain and my wheels slipped out from under me. I feel bad putting it on her bike but she says she doesn't mind.

Front Derailleur:

Shifters. Yes the right shifter was also a victim of the earlier mentioned crash. It also wasn't shifting correctly from when I got my bike but after a quick trip back to shimano...it's all better now.:

She Loves this new saddle. My GF used to complain how she felt like she sat around her saddle instead of on it so we got her this Woman's specific saddle in a wider size. This by far is her favorite bike upgrade.:

Aint she pretty?:

Awww....they're kissing:

Of course Dinah was too busy this time to inspect my work:

This rebuild went a lot smoother than when I rebuilt my Iron Horse but I did have practice by now. Granted it wasn't nearly as much of a rebuild as the Iron Horse. I got to try out a bar wrapping technique that allows the tape to be self tightening on both the top and in the drops. Unfortunately it took two days to finish because stupid me didn't have a chain that was long enough and by the time I realized, all the shops were closed.

Now to build up that Fuji Espree. IF you look carefully, you can see it in one of the pictures.

Tune in next time for the conclusion of this mini-series. Same Bike time...Same Bike Channel.

you're making me all nostalgic. I had a Fuji Ace a few years ago. I bought it because it was really affordable (on clearance). I loved how it rode - really fun bike. They're way more fun than their price tag and sora components would suggest.
