Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Your favourite road bike mfr website.

As much as I love my LeMond I have to say that Cervelo has the most amazing, sexiest website that I have seen among the bike mfrs....any other opinions?

Cheers,

Brian

I've spent way too much time on the Lemond site - more looking for specs and information than anything else.

Other than that, Vanilla is the one I keep going back to.

I like Flyte's (flyte1.com). When you customize your bike it warns you if a part is not compatible, shows a graphic of each part you select, and constantly updates the cost and weight as you modify - that and it has some nice graphics.

I love to pretend to build $12000 bikes!

...and Poshbikes is cool, too. So is Zipp, just for the ass-load of info.

I do web development for a living, but my focus is on usability and accessibility, not eye candy. From a usability standpoint, many of the bike mfr websites are horrifying. Some of them are a shemozzle of links all over the place, and it's tough to compare one bike to the next in their lineup.

The Specialized site isn't bad (once you get past the annoying region selector) because they list the bikes in order with MSRP next to them, so you see just how nice of a bike you can afford. Unfortunately, the heavy use of Javascript makes the site rather sluggish, even on a high-speed connection.

This page from Giant also makes it easy to view the line-up, without any slow-loading flash doohickeys. The links for womens models, owners' manuals, and archives are right where you can find them.

Of particular horror is the Serotta website, where you have to pan down the dynamic menu everytime to want to view a new model. The Model Comparison chart is a little better (at least you can click on the bike models in the table to go to that bike) but it's still kind of confusing at first.

I agree with everyone's assessment of Competitive Cyclist's site though. Very nice to use, and speedy too.

Pinarello. Great site that talks about all facets of their world (racing, bikes, accessories and equipment guides). Plus it's Italian!

Specialized seems to have the same slow load issues. I guess they are such a huge manufacturer of parts you need to have so many clicks to get to a subcategory and with all the scripting they use it takes forever just to browse products. Speaking of bad layouts ... most LBS websites seem to be the same template but some are un-navigable! LBS websites are the suck.

I'll give a +1 to the Flyte website too, quick to navigate, looks good. My manufacturer, Cannondale, is alright, at least its easy to find information on older bikes, full archieves of previous model year webpages. It does skimp out on the eye candy but Cannondales aren't exactly exotics anyway.

I was looking at their website today. Not bad for a flash site. Don't know how it would load on a slow connection though.

Yeah, it's weird. I think a lot of LBSs use a template that's given to them by the mfgr or something. If you look at all the LBS sites that deal with, say, Lemond, they all seem to have the exact same code snippet or something. My LBS included!

Simple, stylish, with lots of information.

From a functional standpoint, https://www.fujibikes.com is awesome. Just roll-over the bikes, and click if you want more details.

Cinelli

It doesn't really pass the cydewaze functionality test, but I just love the paint jobs on these bikes. Actually I prefer the paint from '03 and '04 more, but even the current ones are good. Love the large split logos on the top and down tubes.

+1 on that. I was just showing it to a colleague the other day. An excellent example of how style doesn't have to hinder usability.

I was looking for information for a Cinelli stem on a used bike I bought. The Cinelli site was the worst site navigation I've ever experienced.

I love competitve cyclist as well. Being new to cycling, I just found the beatiful Eddy Merckx bikes and gear. I have probably "built" my dream bike on every frame on their website, it is amazing. I also hear that their fit calcualtor is really good as well, its a little too late now, but I may have to check that to see if my LBS screwed me or not!

That page needs help. First off, much of it is done in flash, which will take ages to load for dial-up people, though I suppose if you can afford a Colnago, you can afford high-speed internet. But they really need to do something about the nav menu which is hidden at the bottom. I almost didn't see it, and the 3 links that are immediately visible lead to PDF files, only two of which have rather vague PDF warnings.

these are a couple of ANNOYING sites that spring to mind:

The Hutcinson site doesn't even have a 'skip intro' option, so you've gotta sit through a minute of crap.
https://tires.hutchinson.fr/uk/intro.php

check out the insane way you have to scroll through the bikes on the Wilier site.....and the pictures are so small that you can't see what each bike is till it's selected!!!
