Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Pedal Force Fusion buildup

As requested, I started a thread about my buildup. There will be more pics to follow, including close-ups of the lugs .

So here is my 53cm Pedal Force Fusion. Assembly did take a bit longer than I thought it would. The frame is very well crafted and eye pleasing. I did have one issue with the seat tube. I had to grind out some of the epoxy that joined the titanium lug to the carbon fiber top tube, not a big deal though. 10 minutes with a Dremel and the problem was cured. The fit of the fork to the bottom FSA heaset race was superb. Just a bit of fine tuning with some 320 grit and they went together nice and tight. I have only ridden it for 15 miles or so. My initial impressions are that it is very smooth and feels great going up hills (more to follow after I have a few hunderd miles on it). For comparison my other bike is an '06 Trek 2100.

Parts list:

Pedal Force Fusion Frame
Pedal Force ID14 Fork
Pedal Force P2 seat post
Specialized Alias saddle
Velocity Deep-V rims w/ Dura Ace hubs
Truvativ Rouleur compact crank
Ultegra 6600 brifters
Ultegra 6600 brakes
Ultegra front and Dura Ace rear derailleur
FSA Wing Pro handlebars
FSA Orbit CE headset
Speedplay Zero pedals
Thompson X2 stem
Performance Forte Cages (on sale for $16!)
Cateye CD300DW

Cheers,

Rob

Grinding out structural epoxy and sanding down crown races? Yikes... looks nice but that would worry me.

To clarify, the epoxy on the inside of the seat tube was NOT structural, just excess. Also I had to sand the steerer tube just a bit on the front fork, but diameter was in spec. Total tweaking to get everything just right was about 15-20 mins for both of them. It didn't seem abnormal to me to have to tweak it a bit, especially the steerer tube, and I don't think I'd rather have it any other way. Tweak it to fit perfect or build it somewhere in the middle to accommodate everything, I choose the former. The fit is better than my Trek.

Hope that clarifies....

really really nice. Those wheels are Velocity deep V's, right. Strong as heck - though not the lightest things in the world. I have a set on my single speed - different hubs of course.

Did you get a chance to weigh the frame before building it up?

tell the truth: when you were building that, did you kiss, fondle, or caress any part of the frame while you were doing it?

Would you say I have mental issues if I said yes? If your answer is no then my answer is yes!
