battery pack for the edge 305?
ok.... SOMEWHERE before i got my edge... someone posted a small portable battery charger for the edge... but i can't remember where... i can't find it on motion based (even asked there.. and got a completely different pack)
anyways.. the one i saw posted was about $99 i think... rectangular like a charge card....
does any one know about this one or perhaps another SMALL charger that would work??? i KNOW i'm gonna run out of juice for my edge before i finish the climbing centuries that are coming up... and i really don't want to lose my info (and don't want to use a second computer.. would rather just buy a charger)
help! please!

I found an emergency battery pack for the Edge with a lithium ion battery that has about 4 times the capacity of the Edge 305. 3600 mah vs 910 mah for the Edge. It recharges in 3 hours, weighs 148 grams, 5 Volt output, and could probably run the Edge for nearly a week.... $30.

bolo gubb... THAT's the one! the silver 99.99 one!
however... now i like the idea of the usbgeek one for 30... BUT.... i don't like that they have NO contact phone number and NO physical address listed on their website.. big red flag to me when internet shopping!
the MB thread is my thread! cuz i thought they'd have some good ideas.. it kinda stalled for a while.. but it's picking back up!
i need to have my charger pack by april 22.. cuz i have a feeling i'll need it!

Does anyone have any real time usage with the Edge 305? Living in Chicago and not getting out for more than an hour with the Edge, I do not have a feel for how long it will go on a charge. The longest I will need it is for an occasional Century that might be 6 hours.

I have had it run for more than 8 hours.... no issue.... Must be the way you have it set to keep track of data... Every second will drain the battery much faster...

8 hours would work for me. Thanks for the info.
I would imagine if the tracking was not that important that you could turn the GPS off and use the sensor for distance and speed and get even better battery life.

If you want to do it really cheap you can always make your own as show here:
https://www.hackaday.com/entry/1234000270029372/
It's pretty simple.

Okay ... I'm lost.
What's wrong with A/C charger that comes with the unit?
or
Are you talking about connecting an external power pack to the USB port while your riding to extend the useage time?
Sorry for not staying up to what exactly is being discussed here.
Good Luck,
d.tipton

Sorry.
It was the "small portable battery charger" that threw me. The object is to supplement the internal battery with an external battery pack via USB port. I thought you were looking for a charger.
I gotcha now. Thanks.

i want to be able to keep using the edge on longer rides where the battery on the edge might run out..... so i need/want a portable "charger" that i can plug into it and continue to use it for the duration of my ride!
i know some of the climbing centuries and double metrics will be pushing the limits of the edge's battery for me.... i'm not a speedy rider... but i like doing the rides.. with the polar i never had to worry about the time it took me... with the edge.. i do.. and i'd be ticked if if i didn't get my whole ride recorded!

Did anyone try the battery pack from USBGeek? What about any of the other options to extend the battery life of the unit?

Order placed. $30.00 + $3.00 S&H, but no specifics on how it would be shipped, nor an option for air, overnight, etc. Order process simple & intuitive through a secure browser. Separate order and credit card charge email confirmations received within five minutes. So far, so good.

Caligurl has one but I don't think she has tried it much. Somone over at motionbased said you could get 2 full charges out of one of these packs if the Garmin is dead...not sure what that means in terms of a simple plug in and run.

I have been wanting to give those solar devices a go, not just for the 305 but also for laptops and PDA's and such. I have seen those panels that roll-up and can be daisy-chained, but they are all so pricey. Plus, I am not sure how practical a solar charger would be if you spend most of the day in the saddle. Still, would be neat to try them out.
