Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Road Racing Information Needed

Hi All,
I want to start racing this spring/summer but I don't know alot about how racing works. Would appreciate any information as to the process. I'm 34 years old and want to try different types of road races to see what i enjoy the most.

Some questions:
1. Is there a central oranization that governs amateur racing? would this be usa cycling organization? saw their website.
2. do i need a license to race?
3. What is the process to enter races?
4. do i need to be on a team to do a road race?

I've been training pretty hard all last year including the winter and feel like i'm ready to give it a try. just don't know how!!

Thanks!

check out the racing sub forum for lots of info.

Your questions:
1) yes,
2)yes, (you can buy a one day, or one for a year)
3)sign up fill out the release, pay the money. You can do it at the race, or before online for most races.
4) no, but it helps.
