Background: Hey everyone, after a year since I first discovered the art of road biking, and spending that first year on a 25+ pound Fuji (Early 1980’s 5 speed, collar shifters, 27x1/14 wheels); that was almost the same age as me. I went out and bought my first true road bike.
Being a pre-optometry student (eye-doctor), my budget was extremely tight. I knew I wanted a bike that would be comfortable enough for metrics, but also light enough for road racing. I also wanted to get a bike in Campy. My choices were very limited, with what is out there for my price range, and is still of good quality. I was going to get Giant TCR 1 aluminum, until I checked out this custom shop that deals mainly with high-end imports. I wasn’t planning on finding anything there in my price range, but was very surprised that they could give me an amazing deal on a close out frame.
New Bike: I decided on an OLMO Antares frame (2002) with Campy Veloce 10 speed groupo. Everything is Veloce except for the Hubs, crank, and bottom bracket. I wanted to go compact being that I live in Central PA, and have a lot of rolling hills. I decided on a FSA Gossamer crank in 50/34. Here are the specs of my new Italian Stallion:
Frame: OLMO Antares (2002) (Dedaccai 7000 T6 Aluminum)
Brifters: Campy Veloce
Brakes: Veloce
F/R Derailleur: Veloce
Crank: FSA Gossamer (50/34)
Cassette: Veloce (12/23), wanted 11/23, but isn’t made in Veloce’s line….. next upgrade
Bar, Stem, Seat post: Sel Cof
Rims: Fir (Pin)
Spokes: DT
Hubs: Miche (Primato Dynamic)
Seat: Specialized Alias
Pedals: Shimano Ultegra
Tires: Michelin Speediums (upgrading to either Pro Race 2’s, or Tufo C S 33 Special when the gravel is all off the roads)
Everything is Italian on this bike except for the crank, seat, spokes, tires, and pedals.
I haven’t had a chance to get a full ride in, so my fingers are crossed for tomorrow (please don’t rain), and before anyone says anything about the Shimano pedals…. The FSA is buffering them from the rest of the bike, and I already had them before I started this build!

YES, it rides soo much nicer then the Fuji... The fuji was steel, which was nice and smooth, but the Olmo is soo much quicker, and is so light on climbs....
Im just hoping that tomorrow is sunny, and the rain keeps away until Mon.

Nice ride - BTW, you'll be fine w/ the 12-23 - IMHO, I'd save your $$. You will use the extra mid-range gear 100x more often than the 11. I ride in the mts often (CO) and have never had an issue keeping up w/ anyone who had an 11 & have won many races w/o an 11.

No, Olmo is a small Italian company that started in 1939. They only produce a couple thousand frames a year, and all are made by hand in the OLMO plant in Italy.

Same with my LBS, I was actually going to go Open pro, with Veloce hubs, but they couldn't get the hubs in on time, and suggested these. I'll let you know what I think of them tomorrow. (weather permiting
)One thing I didn't quite like is the high spoke count... I am not a big guy 145, so I will be using these wheels for a while until I can buy a lighter set in earlier fall. From what I have heard they are really bombproof, which is nice considering all the crappy roads I ride

Congrats on your new Olmo. As sportbiker said we're a rare breed anywhere but the bike always draws raves from other cyclists. Also stayed with steel and have the Millenium.
