The Cyclist's Training Bible
I am looking at getting this book. I was thinking about getting a used copy of the 2nd edition and wanted know if there are any major changes for the 3rd edition that would warrant spending the extra cash for a new book?

You can look inside a portion of the book at Amazon. Also, thanks in large part to Andrew Carnegie there are libraries in almost any town of any size anywhere in the country.

Well I have read the 3rd and it was very good; he does mention changes to the 2nd in the 3rd but I think it was mostly about nutrition. Joe has put more importance on protein in his later writings.

Regardless of the edition, the book kicks a great deal of ass. Just buy it, or go to your local library.

Do you think this book is overkill though for someone looking to get better/ more fit at cycling, but not really racing?
I bought it but am thinking about returning it. Some good stuff but mostly overkill for me I think. I am just trying to get myself back into shape. Ride some centuries, lose some weight etc.
By the same token. My life IS pretty busy. So learning how to train smarter helps even me. My training time is limited so I like to make the best use of it as I can.

If you are serious about becoming a fit cyclist, whether you race or not, I think this book is a must-read.

Thanks,
Great explanation. All of your points are things that I am interested in. I guess I saw the stuff about annual plans and racing and said Whoa, this is a bit intense.
