Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

need help comparing bikes and what to buy

What are other comparable brands/models with the trek 5000 (around $1,690)?
I'm mainly looking for a carbon frame bike.
What models from brands like , say, Giant or Litespeed, are in the same
category?

Thanks.

I just bought a Felt F3C this past week end, I paid $2500.00. I love it so far. Felt has a F4C that can be had for around the same price you are looking for.
Here is a pic of the new one.

I have been doing research on the same thing... Carbon bikes at around $2,000 (or less). I have decided on a Giant TCR Comp 3 for myself, but I also looked at the FELT F5C, KHS Flite 900, and the Specialized Roubaix carbon.
All have similar components, and are very capable. This gives you a good choice for Standard, sloping, or compact frames.

Hi,

I'm sure many mfg's have bikes in that price range, but the Trek is a decent value.

If you don't mind ordering online, look at the Motobecane Le Champion SL from www.bikesdirect.com

I would also get fitted by your LBS and not just buy the bike that people suggest or what you decide from suggestions. A properly fitted bike will make all the difference.
