Aluminum and CF Failure, with pic

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Aluminum and CF Failure, with pic

At ~6000kms, my ally Soloist has developed crumbling cracks at most welds (cheap aluminum), my CF seatpost and bars suffered CATASTROPHIC FAILURES simultaneously this morning. Steel really is real, I'm buying a Rivendell and growing a beard.
Oh, and I now finally realize that my Bell Sweep is a government control scam (thanks Tom!).
here's the pic, it happened downhill:

luckily, i was carrying three extra tubes and two cliff bars.

also, lycra shorts look ridiculous, i'm switching to these:

Can't touch this

What, you think that was bad?

You should see what happened to my FULL carbon, "no named" Pedal Force, custom painted Trinity bike!!!

And all I did was hit a rock.

Were they "on sale"? If so, you didn't pay enough for those beauties. I think you should call them up right away, and offer them more money.

Don't forget to grab a aero/bug cover for your neon green '91 Bell helmet.

Oh, and rainbow lenses for your Oakley face mask glasses.

Please excuse my ignorance, but who actually buys these? $2,500 for a Rivendell, or $500 for one that looks the same (+ battle scars) on e-bay.

See references to socks, sandals, hemp clothing, tie-dyes, homeopathy, Grateful dead...don't get me started again.

Well according to Rivendell website every material including titanium will catastrophically fail, carbon within one year. So look out guys were gonna have planes droppin outa the sky because of these crappy materials. Darn, shoulda built those wings with lugged steel. What's the world coming to

OH, THE HUMANITY!!!

I'm glad I got that old steel Centurion for commuting, it's the only bike I can trust to ride safely for more than 5 minutes, and venture further than a block from my house without fear of serious bodily harm, or even DEATH!!!

"Hi, I'm new to the forums, and I am a serius road cyclist, but I'm worried my stem is making me look like a DUI. I want the most expensive stem imaginable, preferably CF with titanium lugs, must be $1000+. Also, it must disintregrate when exposed to UV rays, because it looks really cool when I'm with my girlfriend and whip out the plastic at the LBS, (which is run by trained monkeys, buy online if at all possible!) The fact that the bike will primarily sit on top of my Excursion will hopefully hasten the UV damage. Also, my fork is capable of fitting 28s. Should I trade it in for something with less clearance. I don't want to be confused with some DUI or a (shudder) commuter. Thanx."

"Well, speaking as an experienced level IV dungeon master who's pretty much given up on impressing anyone, I can give you any opinions, while amazingly and simultaneously ignoring facts, data, or understanding and suggest that you avoid carbon because it doesn't rhyme with anything. While I can't hope to understand it, I'll just make stuff up , like UV rays, melting in the sun, toxic particles, cheap non-american, non-white labor, and advise you not to buy what you want with your money or care about technology and innovation and just tell you that bike design hit perfection in America, with American steel in 1962. Simplify, man."
" by the way, I have no need for a sense of humor, or a calendar to realize the date, it's hard enough logging onto the internet with my mahogany abacus."
