Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

a bike will only rides as well as it looks. but comfort is key

I couldn't even ride in the drops at all really.

Luckily I came up with a more affordable solution! They had a little device that extends my head tube and raised my bars. It was pretty tall...a couple inches...which made the bars too high. After flipping the stem, however, they seem to be in a really good spot. I'm much more comfortable now, and can comfortably ride in the drops.

The only problem is that this thing kind of looks weird. It was actually silver, which made it even weirder, so I covered it in electrical tape to make it less obvious. Still kind of looks weird, I think. But at least I was able to flip the stem so it's now horizontal.

So tell me what you think...how stupid does it look?!

Does anyone actually read the thread before posting so that they 1) don't repost something already posted, and 2) realize that the original post was over a year ago?

I think 4 or 5 people already posted this exact comment a year ago.

Even thought this is old... has anyone mentioned steering in this thread? One reason I like my LeMond is that the handle bar is almost directly above my front axle. Too far forward or back would affect the steering ratio too much for my taste.

You are spot on, my friend. This year's comments have been so much more insightful than previously. I knew this would pay off in the long run.

So now that this thing has been revived, what was your final solution? Or was it a hoax?

Since when do roadies care what other people think?

Riding around in spandex and silver Velcro shoes doesn't look cool either, but we do it.

Ugh. My former LBS slapped one of these on after they sold me a Lemond that didn't fit me. Apart from looking horrible, I lost a lot of control of the bike's steering. I hated riding that bike because it was so squirrely. I finally sold it and bought a bike that fit from another shop.
