Wheee!!! Improvements!!!

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Wheee!!! Improvements!!!

O.K, so I did a 11.2 mile loop yesterday that I use to test my fitness. Now, I'm an average cyclist and this loop has some hills. When going all out last year I did it at an average speed of 16.2MPH (I'm no speed demon). This week, on a day with really nasty head winds, I did it at an average of 18.4MPH!

And after the loop I still felt so good that I threw in some other rolling hills (Strawberry Hill in Concord) and ended up with 17.6MPH for 19 Miles.

Its good to see improvement from last year

HI uga8589,

I made sure to ride indoors (trainer) for an 40min - 1 Hr) 3-4 times a week and since it was a relatively mild winter, on days that were not too bad (above 15-20F and sunny) I actually rode outside. I pretty much stayed within the 65%-73% heartrate most of the time.

I don't have a lot of time to train but I'm riding a century in about 6 weeks and have begun doing long rides (70 Miles is my longest so far). My riding program now that I'm theoretically out of building a base (I have 1000+ Miles of base riding so far.

Tuesday (2-3 Hour Ride) Medium 30-45 Miles
Thursday (1-1.5 Hour Ride) Easy 22 Miles or so
Saturday (4 Hr Group ride, meaning all over the place from easy to sprinting up hills) 60-70 Miles

Pretty refreshing to hear about someone's improvements that are related to training and the results of that training, rather than how "I've just shaved 10 grams off the weight of my steed with these brand new carbon aero bottle cages...."

Good for you--well done!

Of course I did shave .00000000001 pounds by going from a 120mm stem to a 100mm stem
