Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Steerer tube length question *short*

Will a steerer tube that is 9.5" in length be long enough to install into a head tube that is 7.5" in length

Threaded tube, yes. Non-threaded, barely, but most likely no, taking headset stack height into account.

That's what I was afraid of. This is for my '05 Allez Comp Cr-Mo which has a non threaded standard headset. I was thinking two inches would be cutting it short (no pun intended) after I took into accound the space taken up by the headset and the stem.

Thanks for the quick reply.

maybe if you bought a new, VERY shallow head-set? Are there head-sets with less than 2cm total stack?

Is the difference exactly 2 inches? That's a smidge under 51mm, so.........

I passed that fork over. 2" is just a little too close.

Thanks guys!
