Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Do any companies custom paint helmets?

I had a heck of a time today over at nyc velo in manhattan. Originally I was plannin on getting the bell sweep r helmet in team csc colors. But as it turned out I didn' like how it looked. I ended up looking at the giro atmos. I looked at alot of colors and at first couldn't make up my mind. The red and white one for 2006 was ok but.....nah didn't like it. Ironically, the team discovery colored atmos was very cool looking but....
...but I didn't get it because I didn't want to look like a poser or a lance wannabe "oooh look at me I'm lance too!"

I ended up getting the all black evil looking atmos.
Sorta cool hardcore rebel looking it is. Although, I wish that beyond the all black and pewter it had slight highlighting here and there in another color like pinstripes in red or white. Is there a company in manhattan that does professional custom paint that maybe I could go to? What do you think?

Not in Manhattan, but they do awesome work. I'm pretty sure they will custom paint any brand of helmet.

If you're looking to do this inexpensively, go to a hobby shop that specializes in R/C cars.

You can get stripe tape that will give you colored accents, or masking material and spray paint to do something more intricate.

You can also find a local guy that does the car/truck bodies for racers. The R/C car shells are made of clear ABS plastic, basically the same material as a bike helmet.

They'll probably be happy to show you how to do it yourself.

Browsing the Sem Custom Paint site, it looks like they did a job for a Canadian time-trialist.

Is this the Bell TT helmet from 2003/2004? I think I've seen a few photos of Julich wearing one with a long tail like this.

Thats extremely cool! But it would seem that the best thing is for me to find someone in new york. I will look through those links right now.
