Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Is there a route map someplace for that ride? Some friends and I want to do it later on our own.

I'd take a mountain bike with 42-32-22 and 11-34

Lookout Mountain is probably the hardest climb without having to first drive to it for me. Tom Danielson just demolished it a week or so ago.

The steepest street in the world (it's in the Guiness Book of Records!). It's Baldwin St in Dunedin, NZ with a gradient of 38%.
Here's a good pic I found on the web. Now, I dare anybody to ride up that! Because, there's no way I ever would/could.

Used to be Stone Oak Parkway was the best . There is this one spot where at the top is a Synagogue. So freaking cool. Because going down it is so much fun but at the bottom is a intersection so you have to slow donw. Coming back you dont get to go slingshotting it up. You almost alwyas have to start from the bottom at a cold.

That photo makes it seem like it's not so bad.

Tower Road beach in Winnetka Illinois. Not sure of the grade and it is only a few hundred yards long but it is a killer with my double. Other than that the only other hill we have is Mount Windy which is a flat hill that hits you in the face in excess of 20 mph much of the time.

Okay, here's some more proof. I've had another look in the web and found some more pics.

And now I'd better try to get some sleep.
