Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

the feeling of your saddle

Hey, I just bought a Felt90 and have been riding it now for a few weeks,(LOVE THE BIKE!) my question is how do you know when you need a different saddle? At first the stock saddle was really uncomfortable, but as I've been getting used to it, the soreness has become less and less, but I still feel sore the next morning. is there a point when you don't have any discomfort? or does this mean I need to buy a new saddle. Also is it true about riding a lot and it hurting your flow? ( One day, I do want to have some children) Thanks

90% of saddle problems are caused by poor fit (e.g., saddle too high or handlebars too low).

What kind of saddle were you using on your old bike? Did you consider moving it to your new bike?

Buy a new saddle. I have a Felt F65 and started with the stock saddle. One day I came home and was sore to the touch from my saddlel.

Now I have a Terry Fly and no more soreness.

Seems to me that most bikes come with a 'throw away' saddle these days. Why they can't go the way of pedals is beyond me.

Specialized Alias 143 - took about 4-5 rides (about 6-7 hours) to get used to it. Now, the first 15 minutes is usually some shifting around but after, I can go for hours on that thing, get off it and feel like nothing was there.

There's a saddle on my bike?

Oh yeah, the B17. Funny, I keep forgetting it's there.

If you have to ask, then it's probably time to try something new. It's just a gut feeling kind of thing. The only sure thing is that if you're going numb, it's definitely time to switch.

A few weeks isn't a whole lot, but most stock saddles are crap anyway, as CastIron said.

My Bike came with a felt carbon saddle. Tried it out for a few weeks but it was just too painful. Took my bike into the lbs and swapped it over for a selle italia, one with 'gel'. It was comfortable first time i rode it and haven't looked backed.
