I am a cyclist who also runs occasionally. I have been thinking about a marathon.
Who here has done a marathon? How long should I allocate for training before I do it? Did you add cycling into your training...or did you run exclusively?
My last foray into running resulted in me getting pretty fit and fast...but then I got a stress fracture and had to stop.
Finally...just how difficult is a marathon? How does it compare to a bike ride such as a century? My guess is that the marathon is more difficult than the century?

I've run maybe 10 marathons. I'm too arthritic to run at all now which is why I tried bikes. What I suggest you do is look up the Runners' World marathon training program plan. I guess you can get it online. There are dozens of plans to get you thru a marathon, but much depends on your time to train and your goals. Running to finish is easy. Running to win is incredibly difficult.
I believe the marathon is more difficult than a century if you mean just to finish. If you mean to win, then they are all the same.
