Portland ride pics- 4/23/06
What a great ride! Wonderful weather, excellent group of guys (and Patriot's wife, who rocked!), 50 miles of sweet Oregon roads... I managed to get a few pics.
Stopping at 24th street in NW Portland before the climb up to the zoo:
Riding out through Beaverton:
Rest stop in residential SW, Rad holding court.
Out of town we got many miles of sweet countryside riding.
Notice the unlucky truck that had to deal with 11 bicyclists enjoying the ride too much to let him by...

More beautiful country riding SW of town:
The compulsary coffee stop.
Patriot posing with experience- notice how all his blue matches the sky perfectly.
Climbing some more:
Group shot on top of the cemetery above Sellwood, majestic Mt. Hood in the background.
Rad took us to knock on ACME paint's door, but alas noone was there, and the saga continues....

Nice Pictures of what looked like a beautiful ride!
I like how Rad tours everyone by the place that is holding his Tete in solitary confinement. Like a group of lobbyist trying to free some important figure head
Thanks!

Thanks for the great ride guys, it was a good workout and a beautiful day.
I'm looking forward to the next one.
I will need to get some sunscreen now that the sun is finally out!
Ciao

Here are some poserific pics....
Gonesh9 with his lovely new Cinelli - That's Jakey in the BG waiting his turn.
Jakey with his gorgeous Torelli.
Patriot as he just arrived...with Fast Attack and Paradisus
The lovely "Mrs. Patriot". We call her Nancy and it turns out, is quite the strong rider.
dls333 with his Vanilla Fixie. It took him 2 years to get it, from order to finish, including the paint job from Acme. My Acme paint job, minus the custom built built frame, is coming up on 2 years.
A great day, a great ride and a great group of people.

dls333's Vanilla was 2 years to build the entire frame/bike, including the paint. My paint job alone, is coming up on 2 years. And yes, there is a bit of a difference in the paint schemes between the 2 bikes.
To each his own. If you want it done faster and cheaper, go somewhere else.
I'll tell you what though, dls333 can certainly climb on that fixie.

Great ride once again, PDX'ers. Good to see some familiar faces and meet some new folks. I'm sure I'll see many of you soon as I plan to ride the Monster Cookie and (likely) the Ride Around Clark County.
A few special thanks:
- to 55/Rad for working out the details
- to 55/Rad and PedalMasher for a great route
- to PedalMasher for taking a look back and helping me get safely into Starbucks (I was hurting a bit trying to ride a slow leaking rear tube into that headwind and over that ridge)
- to all for a really great group and ride
- to the weatherman
Sorry that I had to bail three-quarters of the way in. I was really pushing my luck with time. My wife called just a few minutes after we left Starbucks and was a little upset that I wasn't back to the car yet (I didn't tell her that we weren't even that close). So when we dipped south to Greenburg Road, I figured I could shave off a fair amount of time by riding with the wind (mostly) at my back down 72nd and Boones Ferry to Wilsonville. Besides the hasty departure (and some transportation logistics early this morning), it worked out just fine. My route totaled 48.2 miles, but I was in the shower by 1:20 and in Salem (for my niece's birthday party) just a few minutes after 2.

Well, the Mrs. looks pretty darn good, but I gotta say, those socks of mine are enough have me strung up at high noon for violating the poseur laws.

Thanks again to Rad and gonesh9 for the pics. For my first group ride I don't think I could have picked a better day or a better group.
Thanks also to Paolo for hanging back and helping with 2 of my 3 flats! By the time I got the third, Paolo was gone and I had to call the sag wagon (girlfriend). Definitely a learning experience.
To clear up a few things:
-The gearing on my fixie is 59/18 or about 71.2 gear inches.
-I do not climb well. Rad's being generous.
-After looking at some dates, I figured it took about 16 mos. from deposit to completion of my Vanilla. The wait time might be longer now, but I encourage anyone in the market for a new bike to check them out. I'm obviously biased though...
Looking forward to riding again,
Danny
