Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

High-end Co-motion Tandem Stolen In Oxnard, California

This very distinctive-looking tandem with a one-off custom paint scheme was stolen from in front of a residence in Oxnard, California at noon on 20 April while the owners were packing a vehicle for a trip and momentarily inside their house.

If you should see this tandem -- on the street, in a shop, on Ebay, or elsewhere -- please contact the local police and the owners, Sam & Guntram @ 800.447.1539

This is a 2002 custom-painted Co-Motion "Big AL" aluminum tandem with the following components:
- Ultegra gruppo with XTR rear derailleur
- Thompson Elite seat posts
- Terry Dragonfly seats
- Speedplay Frog pegals
- Flight Deck computer
- Velocity rims w/Chris King hubs
- Chris King headset

Serial number is TS211802 and is stamped into the front bottom bracket shell.

Don't forget to look for parts on ebay, craigslist, etc in case they strip it.

I think I've seen this bike before. Was doing an OCW ride, spring metric I think, a couple years ago and the couple riding it were doing sweep at the end of the ride. It sure looks like the same paint job. At any rate, I'll definetly keep my eye out. People that steal bikes should have all their toe and finger nails ripped off with pliars and then be thrown in a vat of muriatic acid.

I don't live there, so I can't help, but man.... this pisses me off. Those ****ers!

I hope they get their bike back. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

And once again, reminding people why you never leave a bike anywhere unlocked where people can easily access it. Even for a minute or two.

At rallies have seen a couple Co-Mo paint schemes like that or quite similar to it.
Either stolen by kids for joyride, or someone who knew value and will strip and/or repaint it before attempting to sell it out-of-state.
Thanx for the heads-up Mark and hope culprit(s) will be apprehended.

I have the feeling we're gonna see this tandem again. The bastards that stole it don't realize that thing is hard to hide. I'm keeping my online eyes peeled.

Make sure you set up an automated search on eBay, that'll e-mail you whenever it comes up.

Craiglist you'll have to search by hand, at least from my experience...
