Cosmic Carbones: The new "everday wheel to have for the weenie crowd"
I noticed these are dropping in price and can be now had for under $1000 new.
With wheels like Rolfs and K ES costing almost as much no wonder I am beginning to see this wheel more and more commonly.

i guess you missed your chance a couple of years ago when supergo was selling the sets for $400.00...

I guess they're dropping because the 'real' carbon Cosmic Pros came out a while ago.
How much carbon is actually on the Carbone SL, anyway? I've always thought they were way overpriced -- the retail list down here is about $1700 US!

they are overpriced. that was one of the sets i was looking at when searching for a good race wheel. they're no better than HED jets; basically a normal alloy wheel with a carbon fairing. it was a toss-up between carbones, jets, and the spinergy stealth. everyone i asked said to go with SPECIFICALLY the '06 stealth, and i don't regret it.

The other stuff I'm just not convinced of the durability.
All this $%$ is a waste of money, but if you are going to waste money waste it in style! Nothing touches a carbone for style points.

bah! euro trash...
i'm sure they're tough, but these spinergy stealth PBOs are tough, too. they made some design changes that produced a super strong wheel. i've put them through a lot so far, and they haven't even so much as slapped the brake shoes over a bump while leaned into a fast corner.
the mavics do look nice, though maybe spinergy can produce a black spoke version of the stealth with yellow decals.

Those do look pretty tight.
I'm hoping the cycling industry "wises up" and offers more of these aero wheels. Currently we are living in the dark ages of cycling with all this crappy low profile stuff. Phooey!
Most bikes look like hoopties without deep rims.
P.S. Can you post a pic?

While the carbones do look cool and fill the void of a deep dish rim that is more suited for daily use, $1000+ bucks for a 1800+g wheel set is nuts.(I may be bias though, I ride on 404 tubulars)

Yeah, but for a RACE wheel, why have any aluminum on the rim? I think tubular Zipps all the way.

Carbones were my only wheelset for three years but eventually an eyelet broke and when that happens the wheel is trash. MAVIC cannot or will not repair these wheels. They did sell me a new rear for $400 but the graphics and spokes did not match the original front. Now I use them for time trials only and wish that they were tubular. They did make some Carbone tubulars with all CF rims but I don't think anyone but some select pros got these.

i think the next time look into carbon tubulars i'll check out the topolino V39 first. those look pretty sweet. there's also another brand called pro-lite. full carbon, 50mm rims, 1400grams for $900. but those have really big stickers(vvv) on them, so i might have to choose something else...

if you want, i can make decals for you that say "i'm too cool for manufacturer labels."

Reynolds Stratus DV's, roadbike review voted them number one in there carbon wheel shoot out. I love mine, and I'm buying a set of the KOM's as well. But for pure 'bling' factor I'd pick Campy Bora's hands down.

Unless you live somewhere the wind never blows over 15 knots, I think you'd be hard pressed to call a rim much over 30mm an "everyday" wheel.
Spinergy has a pretty dismal rep for quality, I wish you guys well that they've improved things.
As far as durability, I've raced my Reynolds Stratus (with the tastefully understated decals) several times this year over pretty horrific surfaces, including bunny hopping over potholes, and they've stayed dead on true, same with thier Alta Race wheels.

I guess I can understand why someone would think the 2005 Carbones are a bit overkill, but this whole "I'm such a pro that if Mavic what that label on my rim then they can bloody-well pay me" thing cracks me up. It's like when pro keyboard players in '80s pop bands stated putting tape over the "Rolland" label on their stuff, then every crap little band in every crappy Melbourne rehearsal studio, who weren't getting any gigs, started copying them!!
