Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Seatposts: All Full Speed Ahead alloy and carbon fiber seatposts are guaranteed against defects in materials and workmanship or breakage for two years from date of purchase. Carbon fiber seatposts that have been, cracked, damaged or broken in the area where the frames seatpost clamp tightens the seatpost are not covered under this warranty.

So they cove pretty much nothing is what you are saying? I am struggling with a SPecialized Pave SL currently. First post dropped and then cracked due to overtightening while out on a ride. Second post is also droping and turning and the Specialized rep says to try sanding, hairspray, new clamp and check the size. Well this one is holding better but still not staying up. Hasn't cracked yet...but he assures me that even having sanded, hairsprayed, and overtightened that Specialized will make it right...3rd post ont he way...if this one doesn't work I am going back to the stock Pave and using the creditto get some cothes.

Oh and apparently Zipp's warranty is worse than that FSA warranty. My LBS had a set crack after one ride when a rider got a flat. Zipp said they had been ridden while flat...LBS said well yea when you get a flat you have to take a couple seconds to stop. Zipp said right, not covered under warranty. NICE!

USE Alien.

Changed from an S-Works carbon seatpost. The Alien is lighter and for racing I have more confidence in it.

Yea...my LBS wont sell me that post. LOL I went in asking for it first and they said 2 shop guys had the tops come disbonded from the carbon tube and suggested looking at something else. I trust these guys so I didn't push it...they didn't have any expierence on the Pave SL and my guess is that if anyone asks about it now they will steer them in another direction.

This is one reason I choose to not have finicky fibrous tubes positioned underneath my toolbox.

Ditto! Thompson Masterpiece. Easiest post to adjust, never slips, fool proof.

Zipps suck. Reynolds all the way baby.

I hear that. I've been having some small issues with the stock giant seatpost that came with my tcr. while it's only slipping in .05mm recently, it's still slipping. PLUS i noticed that the stock clamp has nicked the frame! Oddly enough, i found out that i have the same EXACT clamp as the ones used by t-mobile (a buddy has a team issue bike from last season). if it keeps giving me a hassle, i'm gonna have to have a word with giant

Why would someone want a carbon fiber seatpost?

No way dude the Pave SL has an awesome saddle clamp mechanism...single bolt from the side...easier to adjust than the Thompson...and the Thompson is very good.

Now if the damn thing would stay up.

Actually, I prefer the Thompson. You want the nose down you tighten the front bolt. You want the nose up you tighten the rear. There is a nice scale on the post as well. OBTW the Thompson stays up, which is kinda important

I believe I have resolved the issue actually...we will see tonight on a 42 miler. No I had a Thompson Elite that I slightly regret selling...the Pave SL is easier.

We discussed that. LOL I was talking about the postless designs from Giant, Time, Ridley and how it really was a pretty good idea until you want to sell to a taller rider. So someone suggested Goillia Glue. I think I will take a pass on the glue. There is a new product that my LBS ordered but hasn't received yet that is made for CF to CF joints like this. They market it as a parts prep and it helps to keep the post from slipping. They also have a 3rd Pave SL coming so I am going to wait until they get the stuff to put that post in...if this one has an issue I will run the stock Pave which I never had an issue with.

last week, I was in a break away with a guy on an integrated seapost TCR advanced. It was a beautiful bike. I'd never buy one (try getting it in a trico iron case ) but i still found myself mesmerized by the lines on it, or maybe that was just me riding msyelf into the ground

Lust is one fo the seven deadly sins, along with:

Half wheeling while in pace line
Wearing a Polka dot jersey when you can't climb out of your car let alone an actual hill.
The ubiquitous chain mark on your left calf
Underwear under you cycling shorts
Unshaven legs
Being over the age of 25 and owning any bike that is better than someone under the age of 25

Underwear under you cycling shorts never
Unshaven legs smooth as a babies bottom
Being over the age of 25 and owning any bike that is better than someone under the age of 25 guilty as charged, as i'm sure you are as well btw I KNOW WHO THE GUY WITH THE TCR ADVANCED WAS - found out he was a BIG WIG w/Giant Europe, so at least he didn't pay for the bike

Can't say about the USE Carbon post, but I have the Alu one. Wanted the Ti post but for $189 I wasn't about to fool myself into thinking that the extra ton was buying much comfort! My carbon post is sitting around doing nothing - can't say I ever had any issues; it never slipped or showed any signs of stress at all. I just wanted a lighter post on the race bike.
