New some opinions on bike purchase
Hey guys,
Great place you have here. I was wondering if someone could provide some input on my possible new purchase. I've just started riding and picked up a used trek MTB that i ride to work and back and on my days off I ride just for the fun and exercise. My daily commute is about 15mi, and i ride more on my days off. I never go on trails and just on the roads so I thought it would be logical to go and get a road bike. I love biking and want to delve into it. I found a bike that I might purchase at a LBS. Its an older used masi nuova strada. Its got shimano 105 gear and ultrega cranks with an easton ec70 front fork. I initially went to go look at another used bike but it was too big and they said they had another bike that was a little bit more expensive that would fit me. So bottom line, is that they would take $500 cash for the bike. It looks to be in great condition, again I'm not sure what the year is, its a black frame with yellow kind of blockish letters, they said it was made in italy. Any way, any input would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. I forgot to mention I'm 5'10 about 220lbs. I've heard some different opinions on biger guys getting carbon front forks. I don't need one, it just happens to be on the bike, any advice is appreciated.

Not familiar with that model of Masi, but FWIW, that sounds like a pretty darn good way to get a pretty good road bike and a fair price. I'm guessing you'll nbe pleased with the purchase.
As to the carbon fork, that in and of itself shouldn't be a problem at your size, at least not for a while. I'm a lot bigger (275-280 lbs) and haven't had any problems with the carbon fork on my Lemond. I will confess, however, that I am not entirely sold on the whole carbon-fiber thing - I just have trouble beleiveing that plastic will last as long as steel. But for your purposes, I don't see a problem.
I guess the bottom line from here is: if it fits, and you like the way it rides, go for it.

Thanks for the response. I like the bike, but know so little other than what I've collected on the forums and assorted websites, so I was a little wary of spending my money on the LBS guy's advice. I was referred there buy a friend so that should be worth something. I initially only wanted to spend like 350, but that could only get me a bike that didn't fit. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get the bike, just needed some assurance. Thanks.
